How did Zidane manage to come out of the Lifa Tree alive after the roots come crashing down on him and Kuja?. The game never seems to answer this question, and i have been wandering about it ever since i played and finished the game back in the year 2000.

i'm not sure but after the roots come crashing down around them we see Mikoto walking along the roots. at least i think it's her, we see someone walking along the roots anyway. if it is her then she might have helped him out but i suppose he crawled out since he was only really trapped in there.

I kind of chalk it up to Zidane being a colossal badass. He was supposed to be a more powerful Angel of Death than Kuja, and if Kuja could help others escape I think Zidane maybe could have tapped into something. He could have gone into Trance and blown through a couple of roots with Free Energy or something.
Or he could have used his agility to dodge the roots as they crashed down.
I think it was left ambiguous to leave us properly surprised at the end.
