did anyone notice that near the end of the movie the kid was taller and thinner and his voice was a lot deeper?

instant puberty. he was only 12, after all. i guess after you ram a guy that has a crowbar and is trying to kill your dad with it in the lower body area and making the crow bar hit the electric box then you'll reach manhood.

He plays a 12 year old he was actually 15, because he is now 19 and the movie was made in 2001.

Yes ... he seems to grow right before our eyes.
