This scene really irks me.

This particular scene bothers me: The scene when Travolta is showing his son, Danny, how to paint urethane on the bow of the boat. Travolta then asks Danny why he threw the baseball through the window. Then after Danny gives an explanation of the incident, Travolta then goes into how he saw a girl that Danny has the hot's for in school. Travolta further adds that the girl thinks he's a "fox". Where did those lines come from? Did Travolta ad-lib? Because the expression on Danny's face was "WTF" that wasn't in the script. Then the scene cuts and they move to that stupid diner he hangs at. Travolta is such a meatball in that movie.

I agree but not for the same reasons.
It's like, "Why did you do that?"
"Because I was mad."
"OK. Now did you know that this girl likes you? I'm so proud of you son."

Earlier when all three boys are on the boat sailing together Travolta helps Vaughn on how to bond with his son. "Get him a baseball glove."
And now that Danny has admitted to not getting along and throwing the ball out of anger, that could have hurt Vaughn, Travolta is like, "Well. Whatever. Let's move on."

Humans are not the only species on earth.
We just act like it.
