Lars Rudolph looks exactly like the guy in carnivale that is about a traveling cirkus with a strange character called the Management a guy you never see. Just like the the prince. I really think the creators had this movie as a inspiration. Both are great pieces of art imo. Nothing beats Werckmeister harmóniák though.

And YES, the show is art, much more so than any other TV series.

shareAlso a fan of Carnivàle and Werckmeister Harmonies here! :) Some parallels are indeed fascinating... Series and film have a metaphysical edge to it, even though they are also quite different. But both are aesthetic masterpieces.

Especially interesting is that Management and the Prince could be seen as avatars, Management is explicitly an avatar of good while the Prince is the one that brings the shadow/eclipse with him, so he could be interpreted as a representation of cosmic evil that incites people.
