Region 1 DVD?

Anyone know if one will ever be available? Any info at all would be appreciated.

There was a Region 1 DVD released by Facets Video in...2004, I believe. Dunno if it's out of print yet.

Seems like it's hard to come by. Also sounds like it's inferior to the Artificial Eye release, with the aspect ratio being squeezed. Such a shame. Might just buy the AE and try to hack my dvd player to get it working. It's pretty cheap on their website right now.

Seems like a Criterion Collection Blu-ray would be fantastic...though I haven't seen the film (yet), but I'm dying to.

The facets DVD isn't too hard to come by.

I got it for $18 on ebay, but Amazon has it too.

Unless they've done a new transfer, it really doesn't do the movie justice...they ought to do a new hi-def transfer and release it on blu-ray so we can really see the movie.

the subtitles in the facets dvd are awful too. there's hardly any outlining to the letters and anytime they're on a white background they're almost impossible to read. i had to pause or rewind several times or even get up close to the screen to read them or just to make out what they said. the scene where Tunde visited janos early on was especially bad in this regard.
