I agree, what a crashing bore this thing was. That fight with Sonny Liston went on for at least 45 minutes I think and it just was not exciting. stuffy and way too long.

I'm watching the longer director's cut, and 28 minutes into the movie, the fight is already over. That's after opening credits and a bunch of scenes setting up the fight.

To each their own. I'd never seen the movie, because it did seem like Oscar bait at the time. But right now, this movie seems like it was made for the ages. The attention to detail is incredible, they captured some of the most incredible images, and it feels very emotionally authentic to me. I'm someone who normally complains about biopics being Oscar bait, but this movie has serious merit on a multitude of levels.

No kidding, maybe the director's cut is better and runs smoother. I also got tired of Jon Voight in that weird rubber Howard Cosell makeup. Looked like a Halloween mask at times.
