Just finished series..What now?

I just finished the last 5 episodes. I've never been so overwhelmed by a tv show before. I haven't cried like that since Schindler's List! It's crazy how you come to care about fictionalized people so much, like they're real and you actually know them.. ?
I already miss coming home and watching the next episode. Hopefully I can find a new show that I love just as much!
Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should watch next?

The Walking Dead.

I appreciate your reply but I'm already a fan and have seen all episodes.

I'll pop in an episode via some medium now and then and it really is like seeing old friends. You may want to try Penny Dreadful as I got the same vibe during the finale as I did with this show. After a short while, you become invested in the characters. Another one I liked was Happy Valley as the main cast were all very human with good points and flaws alike.

I'm gonna try out Penny Dreadful. Thanks!

Dexter, with Michael C Hall.

Get the facts first - you can distort them later!

Fringe.

It's nothing like Six Feet Under but it has relatable characters that you come to know and love. It has five seasons, with about 22 episodes per season. It's a dark, sci fi show. Very good.

Thanks! Sounds like my style.

The closest series I've seen in terms of sheer quality to Six Feet Under were Battlestar Galactica and True Detective. If you want something that feels like 6FU, try Transparent, created and written by one of 6FU's best writers and considered by her to be a "sequel in spirit" to the show. It's fantastic and definitely has a similar feel.

Thanks!

Transparent is similar to the dysfunctional family themes and have relatable characters. I would go with that, but six feet is still the best.

Watch it again. 

I just finished a run-through for about the tenth time - I basically had it on loop for a few years after it initially ended, heh - and am still finding new depths and ways to respond to the characters. At the risk of sounding a bit wanky, I think you can only truly appreciate the growth and complexities with multiple viewings.

I’ll be waiting, with a gun and a pack of sandwiches.

reply

I've been doing the same! Haha
Thanks!

Nice. It really is necessary sometimes, nothing else can quite compete! This was my first time watching the series in quite a few years, and I needed that break but it was so good going back to it. It's like visiting old friends...really screwed up old friends, who I want to hug and strangle in equal measure, but dear friends nonetheless. 

If we are talking about well-crafted story-telling, I like Breaking Bad, but it's not really similar to SFU and quite dark.

United States of Tara is a very light drama/comedy.

The Big C- great story about learning to deal with an approaching death in a funny way.

Nothing, it's pretty overrated.

You should actually try United States of Tara though
