id really like to find a copy of this movie. i laughed in a good way about the original (De Lift) and would like to see it's americanized version.

YAR!

It is now in American video stores under the title "The Shaft."
No, really, I'm not kidding.

Everyone is entitled to their fifteen minutes of fame, but some are abusing the privilege.

Stay away from it.......it is REALLY terrible. Watching it I kept on thinking of the bad dubbing Italian horror flicks from the 80s would do. This was the level of dialogue and acting. No redeeming features whatsoever.

Yes. I've been tracking Down for a long time ever since I heard of it. I always loved The Lift because I am afraid of elevators. When I heard there was going to be an American remake of such an obscurity I was very excited. Then Osama Bin Laden rained on my parade and the movie was cancelled for US theatrical release. No US distributor wanted to go near any movie that had something go wrong in a skyscraper. In the end, although many find the premise laughable, if you share my fear or like the idea it is worth the watch. Avoid the American Artisan DVD titled The Shaft. That crappy cover is like that only to cash in on Naomi Watts' success with The Ring. Down was there first and Watts is really never on a telephone screaming in Down. The Shaft is an officialy butt raped pan&scan print and the way they cut up the halfway decent cinematography is tragic. If you have a regionless player get it in region 2. It's in widescreen and there are at least a couple bare bones extras.
