I’m living in The Netherlands myself, and I am a huge fan of the first movie (de Lift). This was a great success in the 80’s, almost everybody in The Netherlands knows about this movie.
Dick Maas liked the movie and it success, and wanted to copy the story into the modern time. In the 80’s there were no computer- or special effects possible for First Floor Features, and Dick Maas thought he could make the movie even better by adding these new opportunities.
However I agree that ‘Down’ isn’t the success movie I was hoping for, I don’t agree Dick Maas is a Dutch fool. He made some great other movies like Amsterdamned and Flodder, which both have a great story and a nice set up for a movie of the 80’s and 90’s.
Unlikely I think the new special effects made the story less important, which we can see at the latest movie of Dick Maas, ‘Moordwijven’. I hope First Floor Features will go back to basic, and create another thriller where the story is more important than the visualizations of it…..

The tv guide says "The Shaft". That title is better (Tho I thought I as gonna be watching the Roundtree/Jackson movie ). If they felt they had 2 rename it y not call it "Elevator" or "Elevator From Hell" or "The Lift"?
