I used to watch this series when it aired though not every episode and so I am curious as to how it ended? Was the storyline resolved to the satisfaction of the viewers? A fan of Tim Daly since his turn in "Wings."
Absolutely not... it is one of the baddest cliffhangers I have ever seen in any series. I do not remember exactly what happened (which is good in the sense that I also cannot spoil it), but I remember that in the end, it felt like you were all at the beginning again, and even worse there was one final cut with a gunshot and the viewers had absolutely no clue what had just happened. Cut to credits, show dumped.
Actually, it was pretty skillful in the sense that it could've served as a cliffhanger if the show had been renewed, but since it wasn't, all the information you need is there. Kimble kidnaps the one-armed man and sets up a meeting with Gerard. However, right as Gerard gets there, a new shady member of his team (I believe named Agent Gagomiros) shows up and shoots him. Gagomiros then goes up to meet Kimble and the one-armed man instead. The one-armed man looks at Gagomiros with a look of recognition. Gagomiros then fires his gun, presumably at Kimble. Credits roll.
Pretty cool, if bleak, ending. The only loose end was who exactly Gagomiros was. Of course, if the show had been renewed, they probably could've backtracked a little: Gerard could've been wearing a bulletproof vest and isn't really dead, whereas Gagomiros could've been shooting the one-armed man instead (as I remember it, they don't explicitly show who he was pointing his gun at). But since it wasn't renewed, it's made pretty clear that Gerard and Kimble both end up dead and the bad guys win.
Yeah, with "bad cliffhanger" I did not mean that it wasn't well done, just that it was very disappointing when finding out afterwards that there wouldn't be another season.
If we're going into speculation, I'd guess that Gerard would probably not have survived. Gagomiros was working with him, and I guess it wouldn't have been hard for him to make sure that he really killed him (he would have noticed if he had put on a bulletproof vest, etc.)
But I like the idea of just accepting it as the series finale, where Kimble has died and the bad guys got away with their crime.
The shooting was not the end . . . the final shot fired was Gerard (he wasn't killed) & he shot the shooter before he could get Kimball. The final scene is shown on youtube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F83m6HaYWIg
How can this be ended as a cliffhanger? They hook you into a show i.e.: "Now and Again" then end the series with a damn cliffhanger! That's two shows that CBS ended in that manner!
They don't intend to... usually when the final episode of a season is finished, the crew do not yet know whether they will be allowed to do another one. I'm not sure but I think the ratings of the new The Fugitive were never really high, so ending with a cliffhanger and hoping there will be a next season might have been a bit too optimistic in that case.
How TV show production works can be pretty unfulfilling for the viewers. Of course they have to dump shows that they can't make money off anymore, but sometimes I wonder if they couldn't find a way to plan with more foresight, to ensure longterm viewer satisfaction. Decide early and let shows end nicely if they are going to be shelved. They do a similar thing for successful series at the moment, like LOST, whose creators were given a guarantee how many episodes they can still produce pretty early on. That's not only cool for the viewers because the writers can make the show really work in that format, but also for the show's staff who know that they will have work for so and so many seasons =)
If they don't know at the time of filming if a show has been renewed or not, they should film two endings. Then, if the show gets cancelled, air the ending without a cliffhanger. So stupid to shoot a cliffhanger when you don't know if you're coming back. As one of the above posters said, just like Now and Again, another show I liked.
Wasn't there a scene in one of the last episodes where the one arm man is in custody but urges the agent to make a phone call and the mysterious phone call lets the one armed man off the hook like he's some kind of informant?
