No one is ever going to believe this, but here goes....
In the very last season of BP (i was a die hard fan) I swear to GOD they stole a fan fic I wrote and made it into an episode, they just changed the character I wrote it about from Ronnie Cooke to that God awful new teacher (The brunette, the hell if I can remember her name cause I hated her).
Now first of all, I know this sounds all sorts of crazy, but one....why would I claim that a show that was tanking and by all accounts never even heard of by 99% of the people I know, stole my idea? Secondly, the two people that I did know who were casual watchers of the show at the time, even asked me if I was somehow involved in the episode. One of whom was a former high school teacher of mine who asked me how they knew about intimate details of things that actually happened to me when I was in high school regarding another teacher.
Because of the stupid fact that BP only lists their episode titles as "Chapter Such and Such" I am having a very hard time pinning down which episode this actually was and IMDB is not much of a help. Some even claim not to have seen the ep or it doesn't exist, but I friggin know I saw it because it shocked the ever living hell out of me.
Basic summary: Obsessed female student stalks new brunette teacher to the point where new brunette teacher has to leave.
Like I stated before, not only did I write a fan fic detailing the exact same plot for the episode (just with Ronnie instead of new brunette teacher) but what happened in that episode basically happened to me in real life with a real life teacher! So either one of my teachers was in contact with a writer on that show, or they ripped me off!
I don't know, I'm not asking for money, or wanting to sue or anything like that, but it really kind of irks me that it happened since now I am a struggling writer who can't get their foot in the door. I don't think Fan fiction is covered under any protective law, and it is clear to me that producers and writers from other TV shows and movies read fan fics and message boards for ideas, sometimes ripping off ideas completely from said message boards (Hello Saw 7 anyone?)
In any case, I will never let this go, and I am still trying to track down the episode. Due to the fact that the fan fic was written almost 10 years ago, and I have had many computers and various accounts since then, I do not have a copy of the fic, which of course makes me look like a total nut bag when I claim this....but really, what do I have to gain at this point? I made these claims when the show was on the air and I will continue to make them. Whatever, I just had to rant it out!
Questions? Comments? Concerns? (And please don't tell me I need therapy, that's the oldest insult in the book)
When in doubt, God prays to Hoffman.
(And yes I am FEMALE!)
