No real school would ever run like this

Ive been re watching old episodes of BP and I just noticed that half the crap that went on in that school, the Principal would've been fired and replaced by a private organization like other schools in this country. I mean come on, I know that it was a drama and life in a school is pretty boring, but every episode some parent was going to sue because their student got suspended! Sexual harassment by almost every teacher? A student dying every year? Teachers getting fired at the drop of the hat? It really annoyed me after like the 12th straight episode that did this in every season..What a bore

Yeah, they stepped up the drama too much. Forget a student dying every year, I think within a few episodes, Sharon Leal's character was close to two students who both died. One was overweight and had a heart attack, the other was shot by gang members.

I take it the O.P. didn't go to an inner city high school. I'm not going to say it's common but the neighborhood high school I grew up around did deal with these topics. You have no idea how much stuff goes on in the principles office. There's always a threat of a lawsuit from discrimination to sexual harassment to just being in an unsafe school.

Tey took realistic plot lines that happen in real schools across the country and made it intwined with one school. Realistic for 1 school no but realistic and possible in general, yes. Who would want to watch a show about a typically everyday high school? no one you have to amp up the drama to make a show entertaining. That is the wonder of TV. Who would want to watch a Legal show that was completey realistic? No one- Boring! A cop show? No one Boring! A Houswives show? No one- Boring! A Plane crash Island show? no One-Boring! a Medical show? No one boring. Everything gets amped up in TV to make a show entertaining and something the viewers want to watch.

I thought it was Lauren who was close to the overweight girl. Wasn't it Lauren who discovered her crying in the shower?

Bit old but...wanted to comment on a specific portion about student's dying.

When I was in 7th grade:A student died of a a childhood disease. We were friends and she was one of the funniest girls I've known.

When I was in 8th grade: a student committed suicide in a bizarre way. Set his house on fire then climbed inside a lit oven with his one true friend: his cat. (If I didn't want to give away where I live and went to school, I'd see if I could find the article. He was so depressed because he was a genius with few social skills. An outcast. It was very sad. His cat was all he had. Many people, myself included, carried tremendous guilt. If only we could have done more.)

When I was in 9th Grade: A student was with some drunk friends when she was in a car accident. She died at the scene

When I was in 10th grade: A student came to school in the middle of the night and shot himself in front of the school. Depressed over a breakup with his girlfriend.

When I was in 11th grade: A student committed suicide by gunshot for reasons unknown. I had know him since elementary school. We affectionately referred to him as 'chico flaco." or Skinny Man.

May they rest in peace. They deserve at least that much.

While it was split between two schools, it's not out of the realm of possibility for a student to die every year.

Thank you

"a student committed suicide in a bizarre way. Set his house on fire then climbed inside a lit oven with his one true friend: his cat"

Are you sure he wasn't murdered? I have never heard of anyone committing suicide by fire (and climbing in an oven just sounds suspicious).

A friend of mine's son goes to a local hoody high school. Once, just to make conversation, I asked his son how the high school football team was doing. His father -- who is a very funny guy -- immediately interrupted. He said,

"He don't know nothing about football. In that school? Those kids are too busy selling drugs and shooting one another."
His son objected, "Dad! That's not true, man."
His father said, "Oh it ain't? How many kids been shot this year?"
His son sputtered, "Dad you...you making it sound..."
Dad demanded, "How many?"
"There's been two but..."
"Alright. Now shut up."

I will say that running a high school isn't like running the nation no principal or student aid would be at the office really late in the evening

So you're saying that in real life, America's schools are getting worse thanks to increasing use of private organizations?

Not as bad as Sunnydale High.
