By the time this scene rolled up (get it?) I had lost all interest in the actual storyline and my brother and I just laughed at how they shamelessly tried to cover up the poor CGI with nightvision. Every now and then during class I think back and laugh at this scene. Best part of this terrible movie, no?

What I wanted to know was who exactly was wearing the night vision goggles? Or did this movie unintentionally break the 4th wall and assume that we, the audience had put them on?

I couldn't believe that the sound guy was that screwed that he allowed that sound effect to be used. It really bothers me when professionals involved in a bad movie don't act like professionals. You don't like the movie, don't sign up, but if are on the film ACT like a professional and do a good job. There is no excuse for purposely tanking. A good example of this is Ben Kingsley in Bloodrayne. Yes, it is a load of garbage by the worst director of all time, but if you sign up and take the money you do your job and put in a good performance. Kingsley obviously did the worst acting job he could do, and that is inexcusable. Either act or don't sign the contract.

That caught me totally off guard. By that time I had given up on the movie some. But that Boing, which sounded like a sound effect out of a bad MST3K short, that unfortunately took the movie to a newer low. 😉

Yes, I know exactly what you mean. I saw Rollerball on the "Worst 100 Movies" list and it brought back memories of the time that I lost forever while watching this piece of crap. In fact, the one scene that really sticks in my mind is the night vision sequence -- I'm so glad you brought this up in the boards. I mean, I'm glad someone else noticed it and thought it was complete and absolute crud. I just don't understand how this movie actually picked up a distributor, was released to theaters, and didn't ruin the actors' careers.

I saw it last night on TV thinking that I was going to see the original. I was staggered at how bad this film was. As described in this thread, the scene was unreal. I had to watch it to the end just to see if it could be redeemed at all. It couldn't and I gave up. That "boing" noise made me catch my breath and I thought surely not its from a Scooby-doo cartoon and when it happened again I burst out laughing.
The thing that annoyed me most? Why was the name changed from Jonathan E? A truly original idea destroyed along with the rest of the film. I will retreat to the excellence of the original . . .

The nightvision was a bad idea
I can't help thinking it was a cost-cutting measure, not only to save on CGI but also all the costs involved with actually having to light the scenes.

I actually didn't mind the film, but that night-vision scene really threw me off(though I can't recall the boing sound effect) It didn't give me a headache like the directing in the Bourne sequels did though.
