Different versions of Kite

At the time of writing there are 3 DVD releases of Kite. The first one had all the graphic sex removed from the print.

I have the Director's Cut, but now there is a release of an "Uncut Special Edition". Can anyone tell me what exactly the differences are between the Director's Cut version and the Uncut Special Edition version of the OVA.

reply

Sex scenes with underaged characters. *shrugs* I'm not sure that it's even a minute of extra footage.

i heard that the censored version was rated R, the directors cut was rated X and the uncut version was illegal everywhere but Japan? just what a mate told me could be wrong

reply

What your mate told you is wrong. For the rating of each release, refer to the "Alternate Versions" section of the Kite page. I updated it a month or so ago with more accurate U.S. release information. The info is all easily found on other sites such as animenewsnetwork.com and animeondvd.com.

AnimeOnDVD.com links for U.S. releases:
1) Kite - 16+ - First Release - http://www.animeondvd.com/reviews2/disc_reviews/412.php
2) Kite - 18+ - Director's Cut - http://www.animeondvd.com/reviews2/disc_reviews/182.php
3) Kite - 18+ - Special Edition Uncut - http://www.animeondvd.com/reviews2/disc_reviews/3157.php

dwkjo is correct about what's different between the Director's Cut and the new Special Edition Uncut version of Kite. Another difference is that the Uncut release is presented in it's original playing form, that is all previous U.S. releases were sold as a movie. Kite is not a movie but a 2 episode OAV (straight-to-video) that had it's own VHS/DVD release per episode in Japan originally, so this Uncut version finally preserves the original format of having each episode play with their own opening and ending, not splicing the episodes together to form a movie. Such a thing might be meaningless to most but it tends to be a big deal with purists. This new release also boasts a noteworthy extra. a long interview with Umetsu. Umetsu is rarely ever heard from so fans of his work might find this of interest.

UPDATE FOR CORONERS AND JUSTICE ACT 2010

Taking the wording of the new law as it stands, on the assumption that Sawa is portrayed as being under 18, then the director's cut and the uncut version are probably now illegal to possess in the UK.

Hi. Just wondering something. I live in the U.S. and the version I saw was the cut one. Not too much graphic sex or anything. But, that's besides the point. I was wondering if the uncut versions had a different ending? Cause the ending I saw didn't really explain much. The kid was killed and Sawa was just laying on the floor. She turned her head to look at the camera and that was it. Are there different endings for different versions? Thanks.

the usa has a possition on underage sex being that as long as the subject is not an actual underage child then it is not illigal since no child was hurt in the making of it
