Donnie Darko and Blue Velvet

So I just watched Blue Velvet this evening. Certainly not my first time but it's been awhile. Anyway, the bad guy in BV is named Frank. It always caught my attention that in DD Frank was the name of the guy that haunted Donnie as it reminded me of Frank Booth in BV. But not that important that I would think a homage was being paid.

But now I noticed in BV that when the young couple were taking a stroll together, there is a large man standing off to the side not moving and just staring at them. The couple glance at him and keep walking. This brought to mind the large man dressed in a red jumpsuit in DD, standing in the background while, of course, a young couple is in the foreground that will turn and look the man in the background.

I don't know if there are any other things mirrored in the two films, but if so, I might actually begin to think DD has Easter Eggs as a homage to BV.
