saw this film yesterday for the second time… and knowing the TV series "my name is earl" now, it felt somehow familiar… not to mention that some of the actors are the same… any opinion…?

Only one of the actors is the same. Jason Lee, who plays Earl on TV, also plays Puggy in Big Trouble. That's the only similarity I'm aware of.
