Terrible, Terrible movie
If you actually thought that was a good movie, you don't deserve to have an opinion. That was the worst piece of trash I have seen in a while...If I was Dave Barry, I would be pissed...

shareI read a lot of nasty things on these boards, but this one surely takes the cake!
While I found the movie disapointing in comparisson to the book, to say one doesn't "deserve to have an opinion" because they disagree with you is down-right fascist!
Most books that are adapted to the screen fall short of the expectations fans of the books have. While reading the book, I thought it would make a great film. I was intrigued when I heard that the film was in production, and excited to learn of the eclectic cast. Somewhere, something went wrong.
Do you think they'll try "Tricky Business?"
"Leave the gun. Take the canolli."
You sir, are a communist moron. If anyone doesn't deserve to have an opinion it's idiots like you. This movie is a fine movie, you sir, are the piece of trash. What are you, a saddam supporter :P
shareoh nice one yea this movie is a good movie just wished it was a little longer
share"mcambymvp" is of course a morron but he's unfortunately right, this is a weak movie, undoubtly Sonnenfeld's worst. good cast, good director but the screenplay falls short of the expectations, unfortunately because I hoped it would be better
shareI really have no clue how come people say this was a crappy movie and that Dave Barry should be upset.
I saw the movie and read the book and have to say that, whether you like it or not, this is one of the best movie adaptations of a book ever done!
It follows the book extremely close, using alot of the original dialogue and only very few things (less details on the character's backgrounds) have been changed or cut.
Basically if you don't like this movie you also don't like Dave Barry's humor, cause they're the same!
Finally I want to say that somebody should make a film version of Tricky Business, but I doubt it will ever be made.
The book alone offends more people than you can count, and Big Trouble crashed at the box office.
I doubt a movie studio would take that risk with Tricky Business.
i thought it was hilarious especially with the two sniper dudes that was genius!
shareI thought it was enjoyable. I enjoyed it. I too had read bad reviews, but I gave it a chance last night and it was a fun movie. Not a GREAT movie, but a fun one. Just my two cents! =)
"I'm packin' Smacky!" - Bucky
You know, a lot of people say stuff like this (well, except for that nonsense about not deserving an opinion... I mean, that clearly labels you a troll, but some people say it in all seriousness), but I actually thought the movie improved upon the book in a few areas. I thought that Elliot's role was a little weak in the book, and it was nice to see him as a stronger character in the ending of the movie (the theme of his relationship with his son was better developed that way).
Also, I thought the scene in the book where Snake forces Anna to open her blouse and let him fondle her was extraneous and only served to inappropiately alter the tone. It was a welcome cut in the film.
And I think if you were Dave Barry, you'd get over being pissed once that first royalty check rolled in ;)
I thought the movie was absolutely hilarious I laughed my ass off. I read the book also, and dare I say for fear of condemnation of blasphemy, liked the movie a smidge better than the book.
shareYeah, I don't really see the big deal. The book was a comedy, the movie as a comedy. They were both funny as hell.
I don't really see a problem with the movie, other than that a few things were changed around to give Elliot a bigger part, to make the story more cohesive and "hollywood" for the public.
I think one of the biggest reason it didn't do to well financially was becuase after they promoed it a bunch before it came out, the 9-11 terrorist attacks happend and the movie was kept out of the box office becuase it was about a bomb on a plane. So a couple months later after everyone forgot about it and there wasn't much money left for advertising it was realeased.
I too like the movie a little better than the book. for several reasons.
- The teens are written a bit better. Jenny is more sarcastic and less helpless little girl.
- Snake and Eddie are more idiotic bumbling guys in way over their head, and snake isn't a slime ball who talks of raping the women.
- Elliot is a bigger charachter and better written.
- Martha Stewart is funnier thing to see than Liz Dole.
- Elimination of the Det. Baker. Basically his part is reduced into Kramitz and Ramierez.
- The guy who shoots at Matt, Jenny, and Andrew is a Sunglass Hut in the book. Why would he have a gun on him. A security guy makes more sense.
- A Geo is far more emasculating of a car than a Kia.
- Hurk beign a Xena fan is funnier than a Buffy fan.
- Hurk is less of a abuser. Didn't care for that in the book. In the movie he is still an A hole, but he doesn't beat his wife. Verbally abusive sure but not physical.
The movie cracks me up. Love all the little things that the charachters learned from watching Cable TV. Martha Stewart growling at Hurk is priceless.
Heck even little add ins like the Customer From Hell returning several times and the watch and wallet hitting snake in the head when tossed to him are nice touches.
"Were." If you "were" Dave Barry. I would shoot myself.
shareWow... it's amazing how one comment can spark a war. I just read the book (I'm a huge Dave Barry fan, so my fiance' recommended this one) yesterday and wanted to see what others thought of the movie--and I must say, there are enough polar opposite opinions here that it's talked me into seeing it for myself. And a note to the dude who started this debate... man, chill just a little. Opinions are like butts: everyone's got one, they're all different, you're not going to like everyone's, and not everyone is going to like yours. Deal.
