I'm watching this movie on network TV right now so its edited like crazy. I love this movie in the first place but its cracking me up edited. The things they come up with to replace bad words are hilarious.
One of my favorite replacement cusses was from half baked on comedy central. The original line was said by Bob Sagat in the drugs anonymous thing.
He said,
"Weed? Have you ever sucked D1ck for weed?"
and the edited version said,
"weed? Have you ever sucked Feet for weed?"
And the voice they used to say feet was soooooo off.
I hate it when TV does that. It's like "Back To The Future". Doc says about the DeLorean "When this baby hits 88 Miles Per Hour, we're going to see some serious s**t." On TV, Doc says, "When this baby hits 88 Miles Per Hour, we're going to see some serious stuff." It's annoying when they change things.
When ABC first aired Home Alone, they dubbed Buzz's "if you were growing on my ass" line horribly, placing "butt" in place of it, but it sounded like Patrick Warburton dubbed it.
Not Another Teen Movie had a neat one. Real: "Even though we have the same mother, tonight I'm going to (f) my brother!" TV: "Who cares about my stupid brother, tonight I'm going to find a lover."
The Postman used 'Spit' in place of a similar word with an h instead of a p for several scenes.
I think it should be a case-by-case decision on whether to bleep, dubbed or a mix of both. I would have preferred bleeping in the aftermath of the first shooting (where Matt is in a mother-daughter sandwich).
Then again, if I come across the Big Trouble DVD in a store for less than $5, I'm walking out of the store with it.
how bout they just stop being f[ucking prudes and air all movies everywhere in their original versions and not f[uck about with editing, it really ruins it, no one I know watches tv movies anymore because of it.
I've been watching the first half hour of this in pure horror! I have the DVD as well as original broadcast versions of this film from when it first came our, rated a tame PG13. Right now, the version they're showing on KTLA, they have literally replaced not only the dialogue of Mr. Herck (Mr. Jerk, that always cracked me up), they have replaced his voice completely with someone trying to do his voice, (Stanly Tucci) with only "clean" words, and doing it badly!! If you have to go to such lengths to make a film "safe" for those sensitive US ears, why bother showing it all. it's 2am and they had to cut up a PG13 flick to make it safe?.. What has the US come to?!!! Some other oddities of censorship these days are leaving all of the adult language intact, but censoring out "retard", "jew", "jap", and one of the most odd ones of late, "Nazi"!! Are they really afraid that somewhere in the US, there is some Nazi that might be offended?!!!!! I know how offended my dad who fought in Europe in WWII would be to hear the word nazi edited out, I know his response would be "What the heck did we fight the war for?.." The reason why you DON'T censor out racial epithet's is that they are being said by examples of people that we don't want our kids to be like. And finally, this censorship is not applied to all viewers, take a look some time at the closed captioning for the deaf, it's NOT censored, do they have some level of higher status vs those of us that can hear? For censorship to be "sincere", it has to be applied equally across all media, not just for a selected segment.
I'm leaving my captions on to test that claim. I've got about 1hr left of the movie on WGN America. Edit: The captions are edited too, oh well, was worth a try. I just saw that they blurred the fvcking doll hanging from the mirror in the Hummer, now thats messed up! LOL
