I'm so sad right now. I am going to miss her so much. She lived a long, full, beautiful life.

how do we ever go on without her?

No she was not my grandmother and I did not personally know her, she was just a personal hero of mine.
Were you trying to me a smart aleck?

How is it disrespectful? What she did was singularly and objectively heroic: she stood up for her Jewish friends at a time when most people were selling theirs out to the Gestapo. she risked her life for them not once, but countless times, even trying to bribe the arresting officer into releasing the Franks, Had there been more Miep Gieses than collaborators in Nazi Europe, there wouldn't have been a Holocaust. We should all strive to be like her. I doubt that she was at all offended by those who called her brave and held her up as an example.

When I read the title of this thread, I'm pretty sure my heart skipped a beat. R.I.P., Miep. At least you're with your friends and family once again!
R.I.P. Mama Kitty and Michael Jackson
I think the lady felt she was just doing what any good person would do. There were others that also hid Jews the difference is no diary was found that was written by a young lady. It said that Annes sister Margot also wrote a diary but it was never found This is someone to look up to because she did the right thing.
Maybe that why God blessed her with a long life. I would have liked to have seen her reunion with the Franks that must have been nice for her.
I'm really impressed that she lived as long as she did. I think it's really wonderful that someone like her existed.
Some people think that just because someone of today would say "of course I would hide Jewish people" that doesn't really mean they would have back then.
They say this because of the alleged mindset of people back then.
But look...there were people like Miep and Jan and Bep and the other countless people who hid people back then, people who would stand up for what is right, and did not "follow the Hitler crowd".
So I think it's unfair to say that anyone who says they'd stand up for what's right back then really wouldn't.
Not everyone back then was a mindless drone.
Rest in peace, Miep Gies.

May she rest in peace...I'm so glad she led a long, long, mostly happy life.
