People treating each other like *beep*

I enjoyed this film very much and there is a huge amount to appreciate here. But I also can't help but be struck by the fact that all the characters- bar none- pretty much behaved like *beep* throughout the whole film. Of course, there were some gestures of love and lust (Octavio trying to take care of his brother's gf, El Chivo trying to make amends with his daughter and Daniel...er....not sure.) But with a wider perspective, they are all selfish, cheating, murdering *beep* With an overly moralistic perspective (for arguements' sake, of course), none of these guys (and girls) really deserved to be happy. I guess the model's chief failing is vanity rather than having shot or stabbed someone and Sonja (or whatever her name was) was trapped in a *beep* relationship triangle with a second kid and so was trying to make the best of things. With that in mind, I cant help but feel that Innaritu was really simplifying the underlying message into one one of morality. As in, if we didnt do these *beep* things to each other like cheating on your wife, leaving your family for narcissitic pleasures like war or a hotter wife, stabbing a rival, stealing from people who have just been mangled in a car crash etc, then we wouldnt be so unhappy.
THoughts?
