I've just finished Spirited Away and Pom Poko - loved them both!
What should I watch next - should I go in chronological order?

Glad you enjoyed them! Well, you could go from Miyazaki's first film "The Castle of Cagliostro" (1979) to the latest Studio Ghibli release here in the West "The Tale of the Princess Kaguya (2013) (which I both love). Alternatively, you can now go on to "Laputa: Castle in the Sky" if you love adventure films as it happens to be my favourite Miyazaki/Ghibli film. I ADORE it! Or, you can go on to My Neighbour Totoro or Kiki's Delivery Service if you prefer the more light-hearted films.

Are you sticking to the Ghibli canon, are you watching other anime films, or are you asking for animation recommendations in general?

I'd like to watch more Anime if I can. Studio Ghibli seems more accessible. I did also enjoy Ghost In The Shell, Gundam and Appleseed. What else would you recommend?
