Stop saying Spirited Away is scary!

You sissies! Just because it has ghosts in it doesn't mean that it's scary!

It's beautiful and atmospheric. And there are some genuinely creepy scenes.

Can't stop the signal.

It's probably scary to small kids. If you think about dark or eerie films you watched when you were a little kid, you were probably be scared.

Chihiro is scared - especially when her parents first turn into pigs and she finds the darkening streets full of ghosts and kami. We are not ourselves scared, watching, because we know we're watching a film, but we feel an empathy for her in her fear. That is the whole point of fiction, to allow you to put yourself in another person's place.
