Am I the only one that thinks she should of stayed in the spirit world?

Her parents never listen to her and they treated her like she was a nuisance. I think she should of stayed in the spirit world. She had friends in the spirit world, she started to build a family and even fell in love, Haku was so cute and nice. She could of totally did just fine in the spirit world and probably would of been 10x happier.

But she's human. Nobody in the spirit world is human - Haku is a river kami. Would you like to live out your life with no other members of the same species around?

Not to mention that her parents would have been turned into pork dumplings.

reply

Actually, she found where she belong. I would do anything to find where I belong, so the answer is yes! I would live out my life in a different realm if it meant I was better off. Her parents treated her like crap and never payed any attention to her and she could barely do anything. She matured more in the 3 days she live in the spirit world than in the 10 or 11 years she lived in the real world. I would of saved my parents and sent them off into the real world and I would of stayed. Most of the spirits looked human to me so I wouldn't of been able to tell the difference.

Almost OT, however, what about Lin? Wasn't she human?
For the heart life is simple, it beats as long as it can.

reply

No, R/Lin was a fox spirit.

Part of me wished she would. So much more fun there. Save her parents, they live off HEA and she stays with all the neat people. Or comes back to it and decides to stay

reply

Aww, well that would be a too happy of an ending, hahaha!! Because what happened in Spirited Away was a Japanese happy ending. Japanese endings are usually bittersweet, if not downright infuriating for some western audiences, hehe.

There's usually death and almost always separation between loved ones. (Hotarubi no Mori e, Escaflowne, and so many more), but the main characters typically experience personal growth and maturity (And then they self sacrifice in some way, whether love or life or what have you), just like Chihiro did.

This might make you feel better to think of it like this: 1. Chihiro was only 10 years old at the time and 2. Haku made a promise that they'd see each other again. :3 and 3. Zeniba said something along the lines of "You never really forget something, even if you can't fully recall it".

So, Haku will come back for Chihiro when she's older. <3

reply

Aww! That actually did make me feel better. I just remembered that Haku saved her when she was younger and so if he was in her life then, then maybe he is her guardian angel or something. Maybe they are meant to be together and he will always be there for her when she is in trouble. That actually is romantic.

reply

It's like the paths of their lives will always cross until the day they walk the same path. :3

It is destiny! XD

reply

OMG, I'm just like you. I was revolted at the ending because I just wanted Chihiro to stay with Haku...guess I'm a hopeless romantic :(

reply

Studio Ghibli is not into Disney-like endings. If she decides to stay at the Spirit World, all her efforts will be wasted. Remember it was her mission to get out of there in the first place.

reply

I don't think that's fair. We only see her with her parents for... what? 15 minutes? The movie starts with her being sullen, because that's how kids feel when moving to another city.

reply

Yes, you are the only one who thinks that. I do however, think she should HAVE stayed in the spirit world.

reply

lmfao get a life.

Should of, could of, would of :D

reply

He's right, you know. Should have; could have; would have.

Who cares. Take your english lesson somewhere else and stop spamming this topic. It's not that deep.

Her parents don't listen to her only at the beginning of the film and I think I know why.

Notice how in the beginning dad races through the forest for no apparent reason, then, they want to go through tunnel and explore some old theme park, again for no apparent reason, but at the end, when they are freed, they are uninterested and they hurry Chichiro, telling her to come on and don't wander off.

I think the reason for that was because they were somehow "drawn" to Spirit World under the influence of some spell. (Probably the same spell that made the tunnel, the stone statue and the surroundings look new and preserved with their true looks showing at the end of the movie).

Also, notice how in the beginning Chichiro is calling her mom and dad so many times. It looks like she's pretty used to it as if she is a bit spoiled.
