Can someone explain to me how the story mechanics logically connect, plot point to plot point? Or was this movie just a string of totally random, disconnected events?

Incorrect. Her problem is finding the white rabbit and later the stakes are avoiding being beheaded. More importantly, narrative is not dependent on genre or vice versa.
