IQ Points

Hey. Someone helpful here?

Decided to play FOA again after watching the new disappointing movie.

I have never achieved a perfect score so that is my aim this time. The thing is I am not sure how to acumulate all the points from completed paths. Every time I start over I have 0 points. Have tried restarting, watching the end and waiting for it to restart itself, loading a saved game (in the office with Sophia). Nothing seem to work.

I currently use the talkie version of the game. It says that maximum points are 941 (isn't it supposed to be 1000?).

I think you have to make sure to save your game after you've finished a playthrough - though I don't know whether it's actually possible to accumulate points this way; it did for the "Last Crusade" game, can't remember this case.

Anyway, loading in the office with Sophia won't get you all possible points, because the Lost Dialogue can be randomly found at three different locations, one of which has two ways of finding it (which makes a total of four different puzzles to solve).

941 is just a number. All the old Sierra games had a point system as well and their totals were also all kinds of arbitrary numbers.

Loading your game must be the wrong course of action as Sophia makes different recommendations depending on how you got past the doorman in New York. I actually think I have been able to accumulate the points before (by watching the ending sequence and letting the game restart itself) because I realized the number I gave you - 941 is not the limit at all, it was just the maximum number of IQ points I have managed to get. It seems pretty low, but no doubt it is the sum from completing all three paths. Now I just have to figure out how to get the remaining 59 points, I suspect beating up a few bad guys with your fists instead of throwing rocks at them would do the trick.

You're right, I read that beating Arnold in a fight instead of rolling the boulder on him earns you extra points.

Yes...

I think I understand how it works now. You will never be able to watch your score at the end being 1000/1000. The reason being there are more than one approach to a problem even within a path, and you can't do all without loading (or restart) your game. At least this is the case when following the 'team path' as you can't both read Trottier's fortune and scaring him away at the same time (awards you 8 resp. 12 points, 20 in total).

However, every non-previously solved problem adds IQ-points to our total, so if you have missed something you can just load a saved game and do things differently, you don't have to do everything all over again as in Quest for Glory for example (unless you are really REALLY bothered about not having maximized your 'current points' as well).
