Scenes and lines that should have been cut:

The scene where they're sitting in their underwear eating Lo Mein, betting that he can throw 3 dumplings in a garbage can so she can do that stupid cheer? I was shivering in bed from that scene being so corny.

The part where she asks to have her nose/memory thing extracted. So bizarre that it wasn't even funny, and she overplays it too much.

The Hugh Jackman line, "I bit myself shaving?" Does that line have any humor in it? Not sure why Tony Goldwyn thought that was even funny.

But listen man, except for those moments, I love this movie. I can never turn it off. Ashley Judd is beautiful, and sexy, and just looks friggin' perfect. Greg Kinnear plays his part to perfection. His explanation in the restaurant, when he really doesn't even know why he's ending it, is about as honest as it gets. And when she says, "There are few things sadder in this life than watching someone walk away after they've left you, watching the distance between your bodies expand until there's nothing... but empty space and silence," one of the best lines of all time. Hugh Jackman is great, especially when he bumps into his ex in the Yoga place. You finally see the heart in him. Marissa Tomei is always great, and her "Time wounds all heels" line is a classic.

I always get psyched when I'm flipping through the channels and come across this movie.

You make a great point - maybe I shivered from corniness because I can relate to that awkward ice-breaking moment. I've done some of the corniest things of all time with women I've just met, so it disturbs me, I guess. Thanks for the insight.

Wyats, I totally agree with that line you mentioned when they break up in the restaurant. I thought it sounded like something out of a poem. I also love the scene where Eddie and Jane are arguing and then he's comforting her on the bed. It was really sweet. And I agree with you on the scenes that should have been cut. Though I also agree with Celestine on the chinese food scene. I kind of thought of it as the romantic part in "romantic comedy" even though there's no real apparent romance there. Just my opinion.

Detrime, this thing happens in her thoughts only. And people's thoughts are crazy sometimes. That's why it's exaggerated. She only imagines she goes to the doctor. She doesn't REALLY do it. Follow the scenes. She's in the elevator before and after the "remove my erotic nose brain" scene. :-)

I squirm through her awkward and completely unbelievable "revelation monologue" at the end in the TV studio. Could this have been better written, tightened, edited.....?
and " I bit myself shaving " is, to my mind, the funniest line in the film. Unexpected, with dead-pan delivery, and revealing of Eddie's character too! He is completely open (no turtleneck, no discomfort at her question) about being a serial womanizer, and in fact, wants to ADVERTISE himself as such, thus precluding any decent woman's getting too close. Also, sets up that they can be platonic roommates with no illusions about each other. Second favorite line is when Eddie sees her on the street with Kinnear, and says something about thinking the same things she's thinking---dogs, VOlvos, 2.2 kids in the suburbs.....
you need some tart comedy in a romantic comedy to prevent the descent into mawkish sentiment.

I loooove that scene, especially after Ashley Judd revealed in an interview that the lighening in the scene meant Hugh's boxers became transparent. He didn't realise throughout the whole shoot, and when he did, he apologised to Ashley, who told him, she didn't mind at all!

SO whenever I watch that scene and see Hugh sitting on the counter, I image what Ashley is seeing!

I bet she fumbled her lines alot during that scene,,, "darn it Hugh, we'll have to shoot it again, no, no don't move."!!

It is HUMOR!! It's not supposed to be something that could've actually happened! It's supposed to be absurd!

And I loved the line...I bit myself shaving...lol. i thought it was hilarious!

I also love the line 'I bit myself shaving' i think it was one of the funniest parts in the movie, I think Hugh Jackman should do more comedy roles

I think it was supposed to mean that his date gave him a hickey, but he didn't want to admit it outright.
