I was just wondering. Which part of the movie do you think Eddie starts to fall in love with Jane? Hes always been nice to her. But i just cant figure out which part he gets attracted to her. Help ppl?
I agree that it was probably the noodle/cheerleader scene, but I think he was realizing it more by the news year eve party. Had she not have been waiting on Ray, he probably would have dragged her out with him
The penguins are calling and I can't find my way out of the labyrinth.
I actually think that he had feelings for her for longer than that, which is why he never tried to get in her pants. And also why he offered his spare room to her.
Even if it wasn't, at the beginning, romantic interest, it seemed to me that he always wanted to know her better (in an intellectual (yes, I know that's the wrong word) way).
I think that he had a little crush on her at the beginning but I think the first time I think he knew she was the real thing was at the New Years Eve party when he chases after her but when she is not there he sits on the steps. I think he wanted her to be his New Years KISS!!
I think it was when Jane asks about the apartment after Ray screws her over. When she asks him is when you can see his true interest. Then when the audience sees that Eddie lovers Jane is when he give she the "drink for the pain"...and then explains what happened to the wall. He didn't have to do that but he cared for her.
I agree with the post above, that he was interested in her from the beginning--I don't think he made a random choice to ask her to be his roommate. He was biding his time.
Too bad the movie has so many weaknesses, it's really a very sweet story, and Ashley and Hugh are great together, especially in their underwear.
Wish I had never seen that final kiss, though. That really needed a do-over.

Totally agree about Eddie liking her from the beginning. He never tried anything with her because he (probably) had respect for her and he was a little intrigued and genuine that she was more than a one night stand
Although he asked her to be his roommate, I think he didn't want to be her . . . what do you call it, right-out-of-the-bullpen affair, because those are notoriously short lived. He wanted to wait until the moment was better. And to have her right there at hand to make sure that when the time was right, he'd be there--not someone else.
I'm sure he was totally in love with her, however, the night they sat on the bed and he said, "Ray is not going to be the last man you are ever going to love," and I wanted him to say (and I think the writers wanted us to think), "I am."
Or "that's going to be me," or words to that effect.

replying to myself . . . thinking about this, I think the fact that he DOESN'T get another roommate is a kind of signal that he is hoping that she will move in with him. He doesn't want a roommate, he wants her.

Saying "bullpen" is so appropriate for this film . Personally I don't understand the "transitional relationship" mentality. I've never gotten together with anyone unless I really felt something for them.
Anyway...I agree that Eddie was holding out hope that Jane would be his roommate and deep down hoped it would lead to something. No guy has ever asked me to be his roommate without thinking it would lead to something (sorry, this film pertains to my life so much, lol).
I believe the things which are unsaid in this film are part of its 'realness' and brilliance. In real life people aren't always obvious about what's going on in their minds every step of the way. Sometimes people don't know what's going on in their own minds or hearts and they may not want to know until they're ready to deal with it. That describes both Eddie and Jane while they were getting over their heartbreak.

Obviously, it was when Hugh Jackman and Ashley Judd were cast as the leads. How many Hollywood romcoms can you name where the two leads don't hook up at the end?
As for when Jane fell in love with him, it's Hugh Jackman. Everyone's in love with him all the time. In her place I probably would have fallen for him the moment I met him. And then fallen even more when he started being sweet.
