Binging on Star Trek Enterprise
Anyone care to discuss the show on this new message board? Let's talk about the show, plots, characters. Anything goes, except the theme music. That has been discussed to death.

shareSure. I love Enterprise!
shareI only watched Season 1. Archer was just too annoying to me, even though I like Scott Bakula as an actor. Archer was way too emotional and prejudicial and just didn't have the bearing of a commander.
The music...🤐
I watched the show during it's TV run until I missed an episode during the Xindi arc, then quit as there wasn't any point to watching when I missed a link. These days there are a lot of other ways of catching up other than on cable TV, but back then there wasn't.
But my problem with Enterprise is the ship itself. I like it's size and it's shape (far more graceful and proportional than NCC 1701). What I hated was that it was always badly outgunned.
I get that NX-01 was Earth's first ship but I would have liked it if it was considered more of a tank than a graceful advanced craft. I could see the Vulcans disparaging it for it's sturdiness and firepower rather than speed and exploration equipment. It always seemed the Enterprise was getting it's ass handed to it, even after the phase cannons were added.
Did you ever get around to watching the whole show? They weren't also out-gunned and made a lot of improvements. The thirst for revenge changed the flavor of the show.
shareI recall seeing the last show, but missed most of the series after missing a Xindi arc episode.
Worth seeing the last two seasons?
The last season is definitely worth seeing. It actually started to get really good. And any episode arcs last only 2 or 3 episodes.
shareThanks, I'll watch the last season on Netflix. The arcs aren't really a problem anymore because I can see them when I need to. Back when the series first aired, there was no option to catch up on a missed arc episode until it hit reruns.
shareIMO, they could have skipped seasons 1 and 2 and gone straight to 3.
shareI liked that "outgunned" aspect, it lent some humility to what was basically corny space opera. ;-)
shareI just started with Season 1 now. It’s entertaining so far. I like the way they show how far humans have to go until they reach Kirks time.
shareSeason 3 is the best, I think. S4 started to get weird.
shareI’m at S1ep20 now and so far they are playing it safe it seems.
Lots of eye candy for me as I love the different starships and the Ferengi showing up was a fun break.
Can T’Pol get any hotter?
haha yes she does! I think in the mirror darkly, she and Hoshi get even hotter. I like the laser cannons and the grappler, hope I didn't spoil that yet. Everything just seems old school which is pretty cool I think.
shareEnterprise began to hit its stride starting with the Xindi plotline. The Borg episode was a clever tie in with First Contact though I felt it had a some weak points in the story. One thing I appreciated the most about the series was that it honestly portrayed the fact that this was a pioneering era and that the crew of the Enterprise were on a steep learning curve concerning the hostile, underdeveloped nature of the galactic environment. I'm glad that they lacked technology like force fields, tractor beams and +5 warp speed and wished that they only had lasers instead of phasers (don't ask me what the differences are) and no transporter technology.
shareMy favorite episode that I thought was the most intelligent was the one where they meet the aliens with 3 sexes and Tripp tries to change their order because he did not think it was fair. There was real literary value and pathos in that story, difficult to really do in an hour long show. Most of the rest of the show was kind of typical of Star Trek retreads.
The show that I thought was the best on ST:TNG was the one where the alien probe takes over Picard's life and brings him to live among their dying people as a way for others to get to know and understand who they were. Not quite as good as the Enterprise best version, but still pretty good for ST:TNG.
Starting Season 2 now after a decent cliff hanger ending for season 1. As others have said much better than me the pioneering aspect of Starfleet/ Star Trek universe is portrayed very well and I genuinely think that these guys should know better but then remember they are years before Kirk and Spock and protocols. They just plucky at the moment lol.
Anyway, on to Season 2...
Just started S3 now. Hope it's good. What's up with this theme song though?
shareS3 was good. A lot of good episodes and side boob from T'pol is a bonus. The last episode felt a bit rushed but it was a good setup into S4.
Season 4 and I'm 3 episodes in good as well.
Yeah, the opening theme song did not seem to fit the show, and the beginning was long and boring.
shareFinally done with all 4 seasons and I can say that I am sad that it is finished. I was too young when TOS was on tv (around 8) so I cant say I was a fan but watched all the movies later on in my teens and enjoyed that (somewhat).
I liked TNG, DS9 and Voyager too but I got the emotional connection from Enterprise. It was to me, a lot more human and grounded when it wasn't outright cheesy sometimes.
Very good insight. I also believe it was cancelled too soon. There was a lot of story left to tell.
shareThanks and I agree, was a lot of story left here and in this last season they barely had time to touch some of the character stories beyond what we already learned in S3. Anyway, I am still hoping Discovery turns the corner into something that we can look back on kindly in a few years.
