What period of the X-files series should I watch this? I mean should i watch it before or after any certain episodes? I know there is a episode in the X-files that wraps up this show, but what episode should I watch before starting this?

you should watch this series before x-files episode "Jump the Shark" which in in 9th seasson. This is the only episode which makes some slight refferences to this series, so personaly, I would first finnish watching X-files before watching The Lone Gunmen.
Although "Jump the Shark" does wrap up the series, I would say watch the series in between X-Files seasons eight and nine. This is because in the premiere episode of season nine "Nothing Important Happened Today" Langly still has his blue face from the Lone Gunmen finale.
