Philosophy 101: The Movie

Dont get me wrong, I really enjoyed this movie and believe it makes some very valid points about the nature of reality. However, it remmins me a lot of the Philosophy 101 class I took my freshmen year in college many years ago. This movie served as a refresher.

Linklater is one of the best directors out there and always has interesting characters full of Depth. I do like the fact that this movie covered a variety of topics and acts as a great refresher on basic philosophical questions.

The animation annoyed me at first but after about 15 iminutes, I actually enjoyed the way it was filmed. It gave the film a nice surreal quality to it.

I give this one a 8 out of 10 and which there were more films this creative which offers thought provoking subjects as opposed to CGI fests with no substance.

This movie reminded me of all the borrrrring classes I had to take in college. Nothing but boring, pretentious psychobabble. Really bad.

My hubby is a philosophy prof, and he enjoyed the movie (although some of the philosophical notions exposited he didn't much care for).

I, too, love Linklater's films.

And, I loved the animation ~

I think those who are starting out in philosophy or are really into philosophical debates/conversation will really like this movie.

For those who've gone through a lot of these conversations and already know a lot of these philosophical ideas may find them tired and boring.

I used to engage in a lot of these kinds of conversations when I was in my late teens and early 20s. In this movie they were mostly monologues which may have lowered my enjoyment factor of the movie.

But now that I'm much older and have a more established philosophy of life, I didn't enjoy it as much as I would have had this come out 30 years ago.
