Oops! A continuity error in today's (24 Nov 2015) ep of 'Doctors' ! ,-)

Oops! Bit of a continuity error in today's ep of 'Doctors' !! ,-)

The ep was 'Exposed'; it was broadcast today (24 November 2015) (Season 17, Episode 144).

Dr Niamh commented - re the suggested Christmas theme for a charity calendar - that wasn't it a bit strange "... to be thinking about partridges and turtle doves in July".

Err ... July?! In fact, this episode has been broadcast in late November! And, of course, Christmas is now only a month-and-one-day away! So in fact there are lots of partridges, pear trees, et al, already - and abounding - in the shops (LOL!)

,-) Just had to mention this!

But oh well, no hard feelings ...

I had always suspected that episodes of this daily TV programme must surely get moved around on the schedule if & when necessary, depending on current events, availability of actors, etc. etc. So this "July" reference proves it.

Never mind, 'Doctors' production team; it was still another fine episode for great daytime viewing! Peace!

I'm pretty sure what Niamh meant by that was when people have the calendars up next year, by the time they get to the summer months, having a Christmas-themed calendar on their walls would appear a bit out of place. The episodes which are being broadcast at the moment are definitely set in November - in Monday's episode, Emma was making plans to visit her son Chris in Australia for Christmas.

I thought the same as you, Darkshines.

Haha. I felt quite guilty bursting the OP's bubble like that though, they seemed SO sure!

I agree with you SceneByScene. I came onto the forum to mention the same thing but you beat me to it. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

When I heard Niamh talk about the calendar, it seemed to me that she was talking in the moment, and the moment was set in July! I did play the scene back and it came across no different.

Doctors is a daily soap and will be written and produced well in advance of broadcast.

I think four months is a realistic time between production and broadcast, given that I have seen episodes broadcast in summer that have snow in them.๐Ÿ˜•

Doctors has many writers and Darkshi is simply wrong to suggest that an episode set correctly on Monday means that the following episode cannot have a continuity error in the script.

Well done on spotting it SceneByScene, its good to see that I wasn't the only one.๐Ÿ˜€

Yes, all the soaps film at least two or three months in advance of when we see them but they are meticulously planned to be set when they are meant to be on our screens. I don't think Doctors would film November episodes in July, but even if they did, the characters would still act like they were in November. Perhaps the way Niamh (or the script writer) phrased the line was clumsy but I still maintain that she meant it would be weird to have Christmassy stuff on display in the summer. Playing back that scene, here are the lines:

Mrs Tembe: "I have a much more salubrious idea, The 12 Days of Christmas."

Niamh: "Sorry, isn't that a bit weird? To be thinking about partridges and turtle doves in July?" (The inflection in her voice when she said 'July' sounded to me like she picked that month as an example).

Emma: "She's right, it's too season-specific." (This clinches it for me. Niamh had been using July as an example for Emma to have said that, i.e, Niamh made them realise a Christmas calendar would be inappropriate at other times of the year.)

The reason you once saw snow in some episodes set in July was there was freak weather in April - they wouldn't have had any choice but to use the footage they had filmed outdoors, despite it being set in the summer. They even had one character say a line about it being 'funny weather for this time of year'.

How the heck can the scene in the kitchen have been set in July when Jimmi has only just taken up photography? The whole idea of the calendar was only mooted because of this new hobby of his.

Further more, Mrs Tembe only put forward the idea of going for a Christmas theme because it's a month away. Who even thinks of creating a calendar for charity all the way in the summer anyway? Nobody is in the market to buy a calendar until the end of a year, hence the scene was definitely set for round about now. Try and think logically, for heaven's sake.

Would be great if the writer could settle the argument, but some people will only see what they want to see....
