Witherspoon has been at the top of the 'Highest Paid Actress' list for years now. She took the crown away from Roberts at least half a decade ago. I think Bullock now demands more, but at the time she made it to the top she was commanding $30 mil. These aren't unknown figures. Most studios know the set price so I can't see why a film that's only allocated $25 mil. would hire someone who is worth more than. Had she wanted to she could have brought her price down, but who knows her reasoning, maybe she didn't think the script was good and they were willing to pay so she took it. It was a lot though. I guess you'll just have to blame the producer (she/he's in charge of the cash).
