sharedont know why but its so boring!I understand nothing whats goin on there
shareI know what you mean. Sometimes the story is a bit difficult to follow because it was sligthly confusing. Still, I quite liked the film.
shareI'm sure it's a great movie and it's just me who isn't used to movies like this, but I wanted to shoot myself within 10 minutes. I've never been so confused and bored in my life. I actually felt dumber after watching it.
sharei really tried to understand the movie!I tried to watch till end but I almost fall how boerng it was!I thought that may be at the end it will be better but NOT!
Reese Disapinted me!I like her alot but this movie is therible!
I love period pieces, but I have to agree, this particular one did very little for me. I think the thing I had the most problems with was that the characters who died the earliest turned out to be the ones I found most interesting, and Becky's manipulative personality grated on my nerves.
On the bright side, there was James Purefoy to gaze at for some time. That was something, at least.
Here's looking at you, kid.share
Why do I have the feeling none of you have read the book?
shareI see comments like this a lot and can't understand why people say, "Did you read the book". This was a movie, not the book. It's a different and unique interpretation of the material in a different medium, therefore it should stand on its own without comparison. If I fancied reading the book I'd have done so, but I it grates on my nerves that one should expect me to do both if I'm not so inclined.
sharewow I like that movie. But I love books about history. And that can be the reason why I enjoyed Vanity Fair.
And I love her bellydance scene!! I have danced for years and I think she is pretty good!!
book?there is a book about it?wow
sharePlease tell me you're kidding. o_0

i will admitt-i have had to watch this movie two or three times before i could really focus and understand it. i liked it, especially with james purefoy in it--whom is very nice to look at. though i was disappointed that Johnathan Rhys-Meyers was only in the movie, it felt like to me two seconds. I thought he would have had more camera time. What i was pissed about was the ending. you see rawdon go off to an island and until reese's friend mentions him dying i hadnt figured that out. they didn't really show it which i found obnoxious. he loved becky and should have been on his death bed or something, some way of showing his death. he was a bit of a main character and you don't get to see him go out. just my opinion tho.

for those who dont get it, watch the far superior mini series. its more faithful to the book, and andrew davies the screenwriter keeps it clever and understandable, no jumps forward in time without warning.
This movie does tend to skip ahead without warning the viewer. You have to pay attention to the dialogue very closely and all will be clear.
Enjoy.
...have you ever seen a human heart? It looks like a fist covered in blood.

I avoided this movie for awhile after watching the first 10 minutes thinking it was boring. I actually watched it and it's now one of my favorite movies!! You have to sit and watch it. REALLY watch it. I can understand how you can get confused. I have watched it several times now and I learn something new each time. That's how you know it's a good movie.
shareI must take issue with you comment about Miss-Legally-Blonde. If you have seen either Election, Cruel Intentions or, dare I say it, The Importance of Being Earnest, you would appreciate that Reese is one of the finest actors of her generation.
However, Becky was portrayed with far too much sympathy, something which Thackery certainly does not do.
One thing I can't stand is intolerance.
What's so hard to ge in "Vanity Fair"? It's a simple, standard multi-perspective plot. Ok, there are some time ellipses, but the development of the events are totally clarified by the dialogues, and themes and morals are rather obvious. I wonder what the people who find it so hard will do to understand movies from Lynch or Aronofsky...I fear the guy who asked "There is a book about that?" (like the book was written AFTER the movie) wasn't joking...

For me it was difficult to follow. Poor direction. Too much mindless and stilted talk.
Nice to look at, though. Excellent costumes!
I am bloody amazed that this film was hard to follow, I am not mocking anyone and nor am I saying I am really smart or anything like that, but I am honestly shocked that people couldnt follow the film.
Sorry if I sound rude, but fu*k, it's a straight forward film, which is directed and acted aptly engough to be understood and appreciated.
I didn't like it.
shareI'm just going to watch it.
shareI havn't read the book but the story was really intriguing ^_^ the characters was interesting but a bit one-dimetional till later half of the movie but I still like it.
I absolutely love Mira Nair directing. very flashy & fun.
I kept waiting for Robert Pattinson to show up. I had a crush on him then and HE NEVER CAME. I was so confused it was funny and distressing. I then saw he was in the alternate ending!
I bet that you look good on the dancefloor

"You're forgetting one very important thing mate...I'm Captain Jack
Sparrow."
I liked this movie. I could tell however some things were missing timewise but all n all it was very interesting.
shareI really liked this movie the first time I saw it when it came out on dvd, and I believe I saw a few times afterwards while I still had the rental, but I'm watching it now (50 minutes in), and I am throughly bored. I'm searching the message board as I'm watching, and finding more interest in that. I could have sworn it was better.
The movie may not be true to the novel, but the costumes are good, the scenery is lush, the story is just lagging though. It's put-put-puttering along. Maybe it's because I already know what's going to happen, despite having seen it 6 years ago?
If we don't believe in freedom of expression for people we despise, we don't believe in it at all
To the OP:
It's been quite some time since your post. I wondered at first, perhaps, if you tried to watch the movie again.. or maybe even read the book. I thought this was a great movie. My intent was to urge you to watch it again and pay close attention, but then I took a gander at your profile and thread post history to get a better glimpse into your entertainment preferences.
High School Musical, Pokémon movies, Sailor Moon, Camp Rock, Model Behavior and so on. So it's pretty obvious that a period piece like Vanity Fair wouldn't be your cup of tea and also the reason why you.. "don't get it."
