not as good as the mini series

Not as good as the mini series, but still an okay movie. I think the mini series invested more time in the development of the characters. I think it showed that George might have actually loved Amelia and that Becky was really more cold hearted and conniving than in this version and didn't seem to love Rowdon or her son at all. Also I thought that Sir Pitt in the mini series version was a lot more gross than in this version. In this version he was a little more tolerable. The Marquee in this version seemed a little less mean and evil than in the mini series.

And lastly I HATED Amelia in this version. She was nothing but a whiny, spoiled brat that I wanted to slap. I don't think Mr. Dobbin deserved her, he was too good even for her.

And although I'm not a fan of Reese W, I thought she was okay in this movie, if I don't take it too seriously that is.

Agreed. I guess it's important to keep in mind that a book adaptation the scope of VF cannot be condensed into a 2 hour movie. The plot seemed to jump around too much and the characters weren't as developed. The portrayal of Amelia seems all wrong in this one.

I thought the mini series was superb and rather spoiled the movie when I caught up with it later.

It's difficult to expect a movie adaptation to do justice to the huge book and as you say meant that the plot needs to jump around and the characters can't possibly be as developed. (for instance, Becky's downfall didn't seem so dramatic in the film and the sense that she was about to fall off the cliff when Mr Sedley 'rescued' her at the end wasn't keenly enough felt. In the book and mini series she had outright disdain for her little son which gave you a sense of outrage - but in the film it was simply indifference when she was not interested in her son's first steps. Not enough!)

Having said that, there were some very fine performances from most of the cast - including RW - and the film looked sumptuous and really beautiful.

In otherwords, it was given the hollywood treatment! of course!

Not as good because there were a lot of time lapses but it was still good. And yes, Becky (Natasha Little) was a stone cold beast in the mini series.

I love them both.
