The message of this movie *SPOILERS*

The message of this movie seems to be that we should leave without explanation the people that we have made promises to, people we've planned lives with, people who openly adore us, and run off with someone don't know at all and have a shallow, meaningless obsession with.

I hated writing *SPOILERS* in the subject line because there's no way this enormous pile of doo-doo of a movie could be spoiled any more than it is.

"Burn it down, Cheech! I said burn it down! I want it to look like arson!"

PS I have a wonderful relationship and no-one has ever dumped me for someone else, so it's not personal bitterness. It's a bad movie.

The message is that if you do leave without explanation the people you have made promises to, they will simply drop out of the movie and never be seen again, freeing you up to be with your so-called "soulmate".

Glad someone else besides me sees this movie for the manipulative tripe that it truly is.

It's a MOVIE! Get over it already.

Honestly, people get too damn worked up over everything. it's a movie. It's not out to tell you some amazing life message. I, personally, thought it was a good movie. it's one of my favorites. Not really believable, but enjoyable to me. People like you need to chill out.

i disagree. i wrote this long entry in another thread, so i cut what i wrote on the "is it just me?" and have pasted below.

the point is somethign deep deep inside of him was telling him it was wrong to be with moynihan. people DO cancel weddings at the last minute, sometimes the day of or at the altar. Its tough, but better in the long run than marrying the wrong person. its inconsiderate, hurtful, painful etc, but think of the alternative. we got one shot at life, and those feelings in your gut, that little voice telling you, there's such a tendency to drown it out, and that makes for miserable lives. moynihan, and anyone that happens to, is ALWAY BETTER OFF being left at the last minute than living a life with someone who can never resolve feelings for someone else.

one final thing that i just thought of and is important. Cusack spent the time searching for sara befor the rehearsal dinner - and it was the only time he was distant, and she picked up on it and said she wanted her fiance to be totally in it, and he at that point was feeling like a fool for being a slave to these deep impulsed. she said "let it go" and he said "i think it let ME go." at that moment he WAS resolved to move on with his life and forget sara, accepting that fate didnt want it to be, it was NOT his destiny. and at THAT VERY MOMENT, moynihan gave him the long lost book with sara's name. AT that point, of COURSE he's gonna call off the wedding. His whole life came down to that moment. If she doesnt get that book, he marries her and makes a life with her. for he does love her, and hes tried for dara and the universe said no, he'll move on. but the uiverse said YES, and so the right thing is what happens it does not IN ANY WAY make him "selfish", etc.

The message of this movie is "Have the courage to pursue what you think makes you happy and what you believe is best for you, even if other people don't agree with you" stop being a people pleaser and do what you want to do with your life

Sara breaking up with Lars had very little to do with Jonathan, honestly. She was his second love; his first was his career. This was evidenced all throughout the movie, culminating in their romantic ride through Central Park being interrupted by Lars' agents.

Jonathan breaking up with Halley could have been for any number of other reasons. I always got the impression that he had simply settled on her because he thought that she was his last shot at any sort of happiness. During the toast towards the beginning of the film when they are introducing Halley, Dean described Jon's continuing failure with relationships.

Yeah...well, that's just like your opinion, man.

Poor Bridget Moynahan ... first Cusack drops her, then Tom Brady ...

John Corbett needed dumping. His music and dancing was awful.

As far as Bridget, she needs to stop hitting smoke detectors with "the thing" and telling her groom on the eve of the wedding "It's you."
