why was Vlad so soft [spoiler!]

film fact:
with letting Lidia's father (Aron) escape and not killing his brother Radu, even he had known he was with the sultan, he dug his own grave.

what do you think why did the writer let Radu and Aron escape?
i think he wanted to show us that Vlad Draculea was not completely brutal and cruel like stated in so many books and films. he even was very kind to the persons around him like his wife, son and bruno.

or did they just need to fill a plot hole?

Sultan84, I was thinking the same thing. I summed it up as the writers/director wanted to put a human perspective to the character. I'm not sure the way Radu and Aron are written into this movie can be considered historical - but nonetheless they were needed to achieve character build-up for Vlad Draculea.

I think this was done to make Vlad look like a nice guy. I mean, you can't have all that slaughter done by Vlad and still make him a likable guy.

Hey kkc, your right about it not being historical because the ending is way off on the way Vlad died. His brother Radu died way before he did. Plus Vlad died in battle possibly by the Turks or one of his men mistaked him for the enemy or it was a plot with some of his men killing him while in battle so that they won't get caught and it look like he died in battle it's not known for sure.

Actually, a Turk dressed up as one of Vlad's guards to get near him, and then murdered him- hazaa for that man

I think it was just trying to make him seem human. Let us empathize. He valued family. He let his wife's father escape as a favor to his wife. He didn't kill Radu because he just couldn't, he had an ingrained sense of big-brotherhood and still felt it was his job to protect Radu, because in the end, blood is thicker. Just a thought.

Agreed. And by all historical accounts honor meant a great deal to him. The only family he turned against were the Boyars (his cousins) for what they did to his father and older brother and for "betraying their people."
