There are three things that don't let me like this movie.
1) the animation. it's horrible, even worse than 'the return of jafar'. colors are violent. the colour of the sea is not that fantastic dark blue that was in the original, but a kind of green or very light blue. riddicolous. 2) the characters of Tip and Dash. they're completely useless and try desperately to emulate Timon and Pumbaa, with bad results. 3)Morgana, the villain. she's practically the same type of villain of Ursula, and is also her thin version. they had had better to bring Ursula back to life, and set her as the villain in this movie too.
the only thing that I really like in this movie are the songs, expecially 'down to the sea': they're good as the ones in the original.
I was just watching both Mermaid movies tonight with my nieces on Youtube, and I totally noticed the difference in the animation department. It was horrendous. The original was vibrant, beautiful and simply gorgeous.
This one was crappy and very cheap. And for some reason Triton looks slimmer than he did in the first movie. But that's just me. X[
I believe this movie was more of a rehash of the original. Same ol, same ol, except with Melody being the heroine instead of her mother. Lame.
The movie was disappointing. ___ r.i.p Heathy, 4.4.1979-1.22.08. You will be missed eternally.
Well one positive thing I can say about the Tip and Dash duo, Dash was voiced by the guy who would go on to voice Daxter. Other than that, yeah this sequel was meh.
to 1) yes the animation is not the best, but I think it has some very nice moments. In addition it's a dtv from the beginnings, so you can't expect too much =) to 2) they annoy me to. I'd like to see more of Sebastian, Flounder and Scuttle to 3) Well Morgana isn't the same type of villain.. I think she's a lot weaker and less frightening. I agree with you that Ursula would have been the better choice!
Only good things about Tip and Dash is that the guy who voiced Tip went on to voice Daxter in the Jak and Daxter games. But to stay on topic, here are MY complaints about this movie.
1. The Plot. It was just, meh. Felt like a role-reversed rehash of the first movie. They could have a MUCH better (and original) plot and STILL focused on Melody. 2. The Songs. Just, forgettable. That's really about it. 3. Length. Movie felt rushed and just, short. I know it's Direct to Video/DVD, but still.
Pretty sure thus movie came out just after they started doing Little Mermaid episodes on TV, where they used extremely muted colors, because they really didn't have the budget to do such lavish vistas for a TV show... Just a thought
This movie did not come out until almost 7years after the series originated, however the idea was always looming about about making another film. What would it be about, would anyone want to see another little mermaid? Well the answers were written on the wall, Ariel had to have a kid, after all she was married and it was only right that when your married you have kids or a kid. However what did you think when you heard there was going to be a little mermaid2 and you found out that your favorite mermaid in the whole world, for most of us anyway was going to have a baby. We all wanted to see who she was and what she was about, and when alot of people saw her and heard her you hated or disliked her, however there are those who ate her up and thought she was amazing or atleast alright. I thought she was kinda neat but I really wish she would have had a diffrent look, I didn't care too much for the black hair, it was like she was a mini-vanessa lol.
The animation wasn't that great because they only had about a year to work on the film. So for those who knock it, lets see you bust your butt and make a film in such little time.
yeah for only one year of work, the movie became as good as it could get... and on the ReRelease in 2008 they changed the animation of some scenes what I really liked (e.g. Ariel's transformation scene ). Yeah, Melody really looks like a mini-vanessa. First time I saw the cover with Melody on the rock, I thought that it was Vanessa :D I don't hate Melody, either, but I just loved Ariel so much more in the first one.
I loved Ariel in the first one because she was 16, I was 9... she was headstrong I was a nerd. She had courage I was usually scared to death of everything. So yeah I thought she was great, In 2000 I saw the movie and saw Ariel as a mom, or as I like to say a younger version of Triton lol. I am a parent of two amamzing kids and I love how Ariels views changed and how she would do whatever it was to protect her baby, including hiding the truth from her daughter, keeping her from family because she honestly thought it would protect her, I know any decent parent who cares about their child would do whatever it takes, I liked the new Ariel and in the time of being a parent I have learned to love her just as much. Also I don't think Ariel should be in the princess line anymore, after all she is married and should be a queen. like most of the others. Melody is a true princess, she came from royalty on both sides.
