Extra scene I'd add...lol

A bit of a spoiler but here's the scene I think they should've had.

Right after Triton freezes Morgana in the sheet of ice a'la Superman 3, temporary mermaid Ariel has just rescued her huasband Eric and is checking him over.

Ariel: "Oh honey are you okay? How's your head?"
Eric: "Oh, it hurts some, but I think I'll be okay..."
Ariel: "That's good, aw...(gives him a kiss, then they sort of start to make out on the iceberg...) "Oh I guess some things aren't as fun anymore as a mermaid..."
Eric: "Oh but I like the shells, haha..."
Ariel: "That is not what I'm talking about, and you know it..."
Eric: laughs
Ariel: "Oh Dad! Could you possibly...?"
Triton: "Oh alright Ariel...(zaps her with the trident, turning her back to a human)...there you go."
Ariel: "Thanks dad!"
Eric: "Yeah thanks Triton!"
Ariel: "Uh Eric is everything..."
Eric: peeks briefly under her skirt "Yeah we're back in business, hon."
Ariel: "Good. Ooh now I'm cold."
Eric: "Come here, I'll keep you warm." (drawing her onto his lap)
Ariel: "Hmm, I'm sure you can..."
Melody: "OMG...Mom, Dad get a room!"

lol that's hilarious. One thing i was disappointed about with the film is the lack of romance between Ariel and Eric! There was only one kiss and that was at the end when he threw her in the water. I expected them to kiss when she was leaving to find Melody. The hug was nice but i think a goodbye kiss would have been very nice:)

^ Yes my sentiments exactly! Why Ariel and Eric had been married 12 or 13 yrs by this point, but were supposedly only about 28 & 30 yrs old! Even though it was supposed to be a kids movie, and mostly focused on Melody, I still would've expected a bit more romance/passion between the couple than they had in this film. (Probably if the original animators had made the film, it might've been there more.)

Definitely if it was a real life couple, even after over a decade of marriage, most couples would kiss each other goodbye if one had to leave for a time and possibly put themselves at risk.

yes.. they should have kissed when Ariel transformed back into a mermaid. But I think that Ariel should have got some more scenes in this movie, she was still a main character but Melody was the total center of it..
Did you recognize that there's very small scene with Ariel ( for about 2 sec ) in the trailer which is not in the movie?!

reply

Really? I haven't seen the trailer for #2 in awhile, just the movie.

Now I'm guessing that Disney never had Ariel kiss Prince Eric when she was a mermaid because of how in the 1984 movie Splash, when Daryll Hannah's mermaid character kissed Tom Hanks character at the end of the movie, he could suddenly "breathe" underwater. (He didn't turn into a merman with a tail, he could just suddenly "breathe" underwater and swam off with her.)

Still though in the movie Aquamarine, when teenage Aqua kissed her beach boy crush/boyfriend Raymond (who actually did have a sorta "prince Eric" quality about him although he was blond, lol) when she was both a human and a mermaid, he didn't "transform" at all.

that's like the funniest thing ever, that'd be an awesome scene lol

Finally someone has seen this scene also. It is the scene when she is looking through the prthole of the ship. I wonder if this was going to be used in the song (for a moment) which would make sence. However I would have loved to have seen Ariel revisit some of her old hot spots. And another thing, why would they show her old treasure trove with all the human junk still together. I mean what did triton get emotional one day and decide to fix it all in memory of his little girl.

Can anyone explain this to me. PLZ

reply

@zakima2:
I wonder what was up with this scene, too..
Maybe it even was a longer scene where she swims back to the old ship from TLM 1 and meets the shark again :)).
Yeah, I would have also loved to see more of Ariel back in the sea. She could have revisited her old room that she shared with her sisters and we could have get to see something more of her search for Melody.

Triton didn't destroy everything of Ariel's collection, he destroyed just some stuff. That's why there are still some things. At least it's nice that we saw Ariel again in her secret cave.

I really wish I could find out what that scene was about. It has haunted me now for almost 8 or 9 years and its driving me nuts. Also in the tv series Ariel had her own room and in the movie she had her room that she shared with her series.
This is also a tv show that should be on dvd along with the rest of the Disney Afternoon. I know it wasn't part of TDAN but hey its still a stellar show.

reply

I guess we never will.. unfortunately..
yeah would be great if the series would be released in a dvd box! I would be one of the first to buy it.
I love the little mermaid :)
