Things find wrong with this movie

1. A kingdom that is obviously dependant on fishing and water way trade cuts off their own necessity?

2. Ariel is twenty six so why does she dress and act like an old woman for a good chunk of the story?

3. Why is there a penguin? Wrong part of the world...

3. The way Tritan dealt with Ursula's sister is just... wow... cruel. She's conscious and frozen in ice. It actually would have been more merciful to destroy her. What was the point in that? To show us Ariel's father's capable of torture?

So that's how mermaids deal with their obviously mentally ill... Way to go with the compassion there, Disney!

Sure she's a bad guy but she's not able to move, she's able to see and feel, she's aware and trapped like that. That's really disturbing. They paralyzed her and then buried her alive. These are the good guys?!

4. Why are you such a nob?

reply

Nob? What are you, ten? Instead of debating these issues about a direct to video sequel you attack me as a person? That's not exactly mature.

reply

What are you, ten?
I wonder the same thing about you, actually, given your constant pathetic little nitpicks.

reply

Constant nitpickings? When this is my first post about this movie? Umm... Okay.

reply

Not just in this movie though, is it? You've spouted some right old crap on the Being Human board.

reply

I LIKE Being Human. Forums aren't just to discuss what you like about something but also the things that might not make sense to you. If you notice I'm not the only one who noticed the writers thought the full moon is only once every thirty one days (it's twenty one, not thirty one).

reply

Except they didn't say that they thought the full moon was every 31 days. They said it was "once a month". How clumsy would it sound if George was saying "once every 28 days"? Very. You're a troll.

reply

1. Accusing someone of something they didn't do is slander.

2. Internet troll = Someone who takes pleasure in antagonizing or insulting others on a forum and or a spammer. Having an opinion different from yours does NOT make someone a troll.

By your definition of troll I could easily call you a troll for not acknowledging my complaints against this movie (which many reviews have already made) and explaining why you disagree.

What was said on Being Human was that George only changes one night of the month. This contradicts how long the full moon lasts and implies that the lunar cycles are once every thirty to thirty one days. It's mathemtically impossible for the full moon to only be one night a month. Any lunar calendar will tell you it's not true. That is what bothered me about George's transformations on Being Human. It does not mean I hate the show.

reply

They don't actually say that it's only happening on one particular day of the month though, do they? They're not "implying" that the lunar cycle lasts 30 to 31 days of the month. Saying "oh it happens every 28 days" would be pointless and rather insulting to the intelligence of the audience to have to explain that every time. By saying "once a month", it's obvious that they mean once every four weeks. It's just less cumbersome dialogue.

Werewolves don't really exist you know.

Third season they make it a point to say 'only one day out of the month' yet in the sixties show Dark Shadows both Chris Jennings and Quentin Collins changed on every night of the full moon which was a few days in a row.

reply

And yes, you're right, you're not a troll.

But I was right when I said that you were a nob.

Or would you just prefer "miserable little pedant"?

1. They cut off Melody, not the country.

They built a wall around the entire kingdom and said over and over again that no one could get to the sea. So it wasn't just Melody.

2. Because she grew up. And I don't remember any dressing like an old woman, all women wore dresses back then.,

I can't imagine a sane and rational adult thinking how they drew Ariel is an accurate portrayal of the change from teenage years to age twenty-six. Melody was ten, she was born shortly after the marraige. That means Ariel's only twenty six, twenty seven at the oldest. Most twenty-seven-year-olds don't put their hair in a bun and suddenly lose their personality as a sign of 'growing up.'

1. I'm pretty sure the wall was just around the castle. And either way there's probably an exit top the door, and a small part of the ocean goes under it so they have access to some of it.

It was a small dutch island kingdom. You can't cut off the castle from water without cutting off the entire village. And a small exit just wouldn't cut it. Look up the history of America's Maine, it's the best comparison. They need large access to water or their economy and import and export just wouldn't survive. You need to be able to get ships in and out and a tiny opening isn't enough. You need to be able to access the shoreline or it's just too dangerous for the crews of the ships. It also makes entering the kingdom or leaving it impossible. If this was a more realistic movie Ariel and Eric would have been hated by their people at this point.

I think this is why the end of the Little Mermaid Broadway musical completely retcons the very existence of The Little Mermaid 2, so the more savvy movie goer can see a kigndom co-existing with mermaids in a logical level (or as logical as that situation can be).

2. Most 27 year olds don't have to deal with the stress of an evil octopus woman wanting to steal their baby.

Hmmm...

Buffy The Vampire Slayer = A goddess tried to eat her sister.

Hermione Granger = Had to erase the memories of her own parents and deal with evil dark wizards attempting to kill her and the boy she loved and her best friend.

And even the mind numbingly bad Bella Swan = had to protect her mutant rapidly aging baby from the vampire government.

Victoria Winters = If you don't know this one you might know her soon with the new Dark Shadows movie. She's the young governess in the TV show Dark Shadows. She had to deal with time travel, twice, being accused of witchcraft in the wrong century, being crushed on by a vampire, a time traveling amnesiac boyfriend, a dysnfunctional, isolated family that may or may not have been her own blood kin without telling her, and issues with a witch and later a Frankenstein monster.

These characters grew up but didn't abruptly change their personalities and 'mature' by wearing their hair in a bun after dealing with the stress of monsters coming after loved ones.

Okay, first off, if you're going to claim that the musical removed Return to the Sea from canon, you might as well claim that it removed the original movie from canon, seeing how a LOT of things from the original film were omitted or changed in the Musical, far too much for it to be even closely related to the original film.

Secondly, in regards to the first point, when was it ever established, at any point in the franchise, that it was an island? Also, they probably reserved a part of the village to be open to the sea just so they could keep the livelihood running.

You probably got me on the second point, but Ariel did do something similar to Melody in regards to your examples, or tried to, at least: She tried to keep the knowledge of Atlantica away from her so Morgana would not attempt to find her. Granted, it backfired, but still...
