Eric's role in 2 was disappointing to me. I liked Eric in the first one he reminded me of one of an adventure seeker and he seemed like a cool, funny, laid-back teen. In the sequel he doesn't do much but compliment and support the other characters. It was ok that he helped his wife and daughter but I dunno just wish he wasn't made so aloof to how Melody felt.
And his only really memorable line is when Ariel is brushing Melody's hair and he goes in and says "So, you're having a bad hair day?" then Ariel says "If we were you wouldn't be helping." He says something about the people downstairs. Ariel pretty much says Yes, I know well be down in a minute, gosh! He walks out and says, "Now where have I heard that before?" I do not know what he ment by that but he should have had better lines.
Rob Paulsen is a fantastic voice actor, to be sure. But he is entirely inappropriate for Eric. Paulsen shines in broad, comedic roles like Yakko and Pinky, and Eric's more of a traditional standard guy. Eric is NOT a comedic role by any means. They could have gotten the guy who voiced him in the original movie, he would have aged just right.
Then again, he and Ariels personalities were so different to begin with, it's not like they could do much with him to begin with. Making him like Ariel, was a huge mistake.

What was so terrible about him singing? He didn't sang an entire song.
