how long did it take to make this sequel?
anyone knows when the animation department started and when it was finished?
shareanyone knows when the animation department started and when it was finished?
shareAt this time period when DisneyToonStudios was starting to push out their films which was ordered by not only the CEO but by the fans of the films they were give roughly one month to come up with a complete script and storyboards.
Than they had the remainder of the year to animate and color and get it out.
This is sad because several movies could have been better than their originals or atleast close to it. Pocahontas2 only had 1 month to have script, storyboard done, however it had less than a year to finish up everything else, I believe the animation teams that worked on this film was from Canada and France and Australia. They animation was worked on from 3 different studios with little or no contact between animators. It was told from supervisor what to do and they followed. If you don't believe this than challenge me I have proof. Also TLK2SP came out around the same time which surprisingly had a little more time to work out details and problems, TLK2 had deleted scenes and I am not sure about Pocahontas2 which I wish they would release on dvd again as a special edition with deleted scenes and songs.
The movies are beautiful and deserve to be respected because when 2d animation was sinking and many were turning their back on it, these sequels and prequels were keeping the art of 2d alive.
so they wrote the story and drew the storyboards for LM2 in one month and worked one year on it to finish it off?? This is a very small amount a time if you consider that the classics took them four or five years of hard work :(
do you know how long they worked on LM 3? Because this one looks much better than the second one..
I like TLK 2 and I think Pocahontas is allright (expect of the ending).
For TLM2 yes they had roughly a month to come up with the story and script, however the storyboards got a little more time. It took them under a year to make Pocahontas2,and Hunchback2... TLM3 along with many of the other titles that were released after 2004-present got a little more time to be worked on, not saying that it was a whole lot more. TLM3 got roughly 2 years or so, but it was always getting pushed back the same as Cinderella3.
It was easy for Disney to announce in 2005 that Cinderella3 was comming to dvd soon which would have been that fall or the following spring, however this gave the artist more time to work on these awesome titles such as TLM3 and Bambi2.
Most of the later titles got roughly a two year plus a few months treatment plan. Disney was churning out animated features that were of great quality and not having to risk loosing out at the theater. Think about it this way for every copy WalMart and KMart purchased say they ordered 800 dvds per each walmart and there are over 50 walmarts per one state, this is all hypathetical.
Than Disney just sold 40,000 dvds without having to try. The companies purchase the dvds at a low price from disney by buying in bulk. So where it cost us say 20 dollars for a dvd, the store gets them for like 5-10 dollars a copy or less, the profit is made the store buys more and disney gets a percentage of what the store sells. Its funny that the new CEO's would stop making sequels when they were getting better and better. They were pulling in madd money which a bit of trivia for all of you, this money that was earned from the sequels was used to help produce the Princess and the Frog which was struggling to be made.
I hope one day we get a new CEO who liked the sequles and realizes that there is room in this world for both original stories and sequels. Also that original films should not have been tampered with when it comes to editing out scenes.
Prime example are fantasia with sunflower missing, and the black cauldron...
Hope this helps.

thank you so much for your detailed information!!
Do you know how successful TLM2 was? How many dvds were sold?
I didn't even know that Aristocats2 and Chicken Little2 were planned!!! It's really bad that they wanted three acts within three weeks. The animators must've been so stressed...
I don't see why Disney didn't give them a bit more time, then the sequels could've been so much better. :)
Just like you I usually enjoy the sequels (there are a few exceptions) and I would like to have some more, maybe a fourth LM haha.
to be honest I know that when my friend worked at the Disney Store back in 2000 that the movie was sold out and that with in a matter of 2 days the vhs was sold out and the dvd's were gone just as fast. I know it was one of the most anticipated sequels because lets face it who didn't love Ariel, and the fact that she was a mommy made everyone want to watch even more. I think they could have done with a tv series for the little mermaid2, it would have been great to see the actors colaborate for another show.
Aristocats2 I think I would have cared more about than the original, personally I don't like the original, but the plot for the sequel seemed really cool...
Marie on a cruise with Madame and the family and there is a jewle thief on board and its a mystery who done it kinda thing and marie meets other kittens from all over the world on this ship, like an irish kitten and many others.
Yeah I could have seen this movie being a top seller, however as everyone claims that John Lasseter is a saint for ending these films, its funny because these films brought the company so much money during their time of wanting to end 2d animation. It was Peggy Holmes who helped keep the torch going until someone said lets start 2d again. Even the new Tinkerbell movie was tainted by Pixar, the original story was called the tale of two tinks in which tink has an evil twin, I like the story that we have now, but I would like for disney to release a dvd like a documentary about all the films they had ideas for including sequels, live action, and 2d films. I know some of the ideas that past that we won't see are "Ghosts" which had several title names like Angel and her no good sisters, My Peoples. Also there was a movie that was to be called
The Great Search for MickeyMouse, where Mickey Mouse was mousenapped and Minnie calls in the greatest detevtive of all, Basil of BakerSt, this was to be the 50th animated feature which would feature at least one character from each film up todate. I thought the idea was awesome, there were to be a few leading heros with small sub-plots helping in situations that came about... This film would have been so great, I would have even like to have seen it be an original dtdvd like 3musketeers. This film could have rocked the house in theaters the same as many of the other sequels could have. I know people itched and complained that Bambi II and Cinderella 3 wasn't in theaters. As the dark future for sequels came to a close the animators were getting more time which is why the sequels were getting better, the communication wasn't passed down the line like the game telephone, they worked as a unit, as a team and the artist had fun doing it. However Disney thinks they made the right choice in purchasing Pixar I think it was nothing more than to have them as a notch in their belt.
Disney had many great things going on and I believe they were doing well with
3-D but everyone was doing it which is why Disney was smart for doing it too but keeping the 2D alive with DTDVD. It gave people room for all mediums and stories.
Bet when Pixar hits their butts hard and the money doesn't come flowing in like it used to they might think that sequel money looks prety damn good.
Wow did I fruckin call this or what ? I mean its 2013 and pixar is churning out the sequels and prequels.
Who you gonna call? Trollbusters
