Finn

I wasn't a big fan of Finn's. She was alright in some episodes, but appalling in others. I feel like they shouldn't have introduced her character. I think they did it because having an original cast of 6 reduced to 3 they felt that they wouldn't be able to cope. But, to be honest I think they would have been just fine. I'm sure we all missed Veronica and Ned during the final season. I know I did, I was never Malone's biggest fan but I missed him so much during the final season, so much so that I think my all time favourite episode is True Spirit. I was so glad to see them all reunited (well, apart from Summerlee!). The best episodes are the ones where there all involved in the story together, like Fire in the Sky, Dead Man's Hill, etc. Anyway, I've rammbled enough now .. I ofrgot what I came to say ...

Oh yeah, I think they didn't need her. Ice Age is not one of my favourite episodes, but that was more to do with the story line. I think it showed they could cope. Though, part of me thinks that they wanted to develop Marguerite and Roxton's relationship more and so needed someone to occupy Challenger ..

Finn the character was created to offset the tight immigration/acting laws, when the series became an all Australian production in season 3. Jennifer and David and the series producers worked out how many episodes each actor (and character would/could appear).

According to Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens the character *Finn* created by Guy M. (the showrunner) was also there to take the strain off the other actors. Just think if you work in a department that depends on six people to get the job done and that department is reduced by half. Causes a great deal of hardship on the remaining workers.

Here is a typical day from the shooting of "The Knife".

Going to use Jennifer O'Dell (because she mentioned what it was like on the set...)

Up around 4/5am. Works out one hour. Picked up to either be driven to the studio (about 20 minutes away) or location (perhaps 45 minutes away). Hair/Make Up/Costuming. Then ready for her first scene by 8:00am In "The Knife" she played a dual role one as Veronica and one as the victim of Jack the Ripper. So she had to go through elaborate hair/makeup and costuming changes. And for the pub scene she also needed to learn the cockney dialect that day. Shooting for that pub scene (with Peter) and a cast of extra's extended to after midnight. All had a casting call to be back on set at 8:00am.

The Lost World shooting schedule was 6 to 7 pages of script per day (and the filming of one entire episode except for SFX and *ADR, added later)and one entire episode took 7 days to complete.

You can see why another character was needed. In the Imposters the reason why the main cast was not in the final script was because Will, Rachel and Peter were needed to do ADR on a number of filmed episodes yet to be shipped to the States for airing. Because of the heavy location shooting a large number of scenes needed to be ADR'd because of normal Queensland/rainforest noises.

Hope the above info helps.
