It's Edward T. Malone. Ned used to be a common nickname for Edward.

Does anyone remember in the movie that he was called John?

In the 1999-2002 television series, Malone's full name was "Edward T. Malone." The characters often addressed one another especially the male characters by their last names; Malone, Roxton, and Challenger. Malone was nicknamed "Ned" because that is a derivative from "Edward." Malone's middle name was never addressed in the show but one can conclude that it might me "Theodore" since that was a common name in the early twentieth century. In the book (1912), his prospective love Gladys back in England nicknamed Malone also as "Ned." His full name in the book is "Edward D. Malone." Also, the characters of Veronica Layton and Lady Marguerite Krux were made for the show and were not a part of the Challenger Expedition in the book. Major Lord John Richard Roxton and Professor George Edward Challenger were the lead characters' full names with their titles. Also, Challenger in the book was born in 1863, so when the expedition in the show starts in 1919, he would have been age 56. If you need any other details and facts about the characters, let me know.

If you want to know what a fourth and fifth season would have revealed in "The Lost World," go to http://www.reeves-stevens.com/TLWSUMMARY1.pdf.

In the first episode (the movie) for this serise, everyone called him John. And when he says he wants to join the expedition, Challenger asks his name, and he says John Malone. At least it does on my DVD ..

Watch this scene where Challenger asks for other adventurers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J4uioaVTyl4&feature=related. The man who played "Ned Malone" was William DeVry. He says "Ned Malone." He played Malone only in episodes "Pilot" and "Stranded." Are you watching the same show as I am?
