4/12 episode

Well, tribal was electric again with Varner divulging Zeke transgenderness. I'm surprised Zeke even bothered to tell him.

And here is the rub- Varner was making a good case to vote Ozzy out before he came out with that. I wonder if he would have convinced anyone to change to Ozzy.

reply

I really didn't get the whole uproar the tribe had... who actually cares? Zeke was born female and decided she wanted to become a man. Who cares? Instead you have half the tribe in tears and crying and super emotional... come on guys, get over yourselves. Zeke made the decision to appear on Survivor not once, but twice, by doing just that Zeke was exposing themselves to a potential outing, and Zeke knew full well that it would happen one day.

And it was on Zeke's terms:

1) Zeke allowed the edit, he could have told Jeff that he didn't want this to be revealed and kept it a secret with a new tribal council edit.

2) Zeke went into Survivor knowing full well that this could happen and took the risk.

That is where Andrea Boehlke and the cop from the Midwest who says she's playing like a criminal this season need to get a life and realize that it was up to Zeke the ENTIRE time.

reply

If Zeke wasn't coerced into outing himself, I think it was a good episode that will teach a lot of people about sensitivity regarding this issue. If he was, then it was a low point in Survivor's history.

reply

I think the tv show promoted this to get good tv people are talking about. I think. Like a brother said earlier, if Zeke didn't want this exposed, they could have stopped it, edited it, whatever.

reply

Your thoughts were my thoughts too. I think the two girls over reacted, probably more for the camera and probably to appear to be so politically correct, especially the one who did all the talking. That was over done for me.

Zeke looked like he didn't even care so I think he wanted the cat out of the bag. I did not walk away from this in tears and I don't care if you think I'm insensitive. I think zekes expression said it all.

reply

I would have to respectfully disagree with you on this one. Are you saying Zeke could have basically said "stop the cameras, you're not going to air that so let's start tribal council over." I don't think that would ever happen. These guys don't have any editorial control over the show. They sign waivers, contracts, etc. Yeah, he took his chances by going on the show, it was a possibility it would come out.

I'm with the other players in their outrage and I'm glad Varner is gone because of what he did. I don't think they were acting. Some people really do care about others. That was something incredibly personal and Varner had no right to blab.

Again, respectfully, because we all have a right to our opinions and I appreciate hearing the flip side from mine.

reply

Laurie,
You make good points and you could be right, but Zekes expression through it all was one of "no big deal" and I'm kind of glad this has come out. I think he probably did want to make a statement this season that it is okay to be a transgender, so here was his moment.

So, I don't think Zeke actually wanted to stop this, I don't think he was blindsided by this revelation, and I think he WANTED IT.

It was no big deal to me, the other brother on this site, and probably many others who viewed. I still believe the outrage was over the top but like you, I totally respect your opinion and very much appreciate your tone and most of all your OPINION. Thank you.

reply

Since gay and trans issues have been in the news so much lately that they hardly raise my eyebrows or those of the people in the circles in which I travel, I viewed the tribal hysteria as just more liberal snowflakiness.

I do realize that a person's sexual preference and gender identity are intensely personal issues, so the only person who had a right to be upset was Zeke. And he wasn't, at least not outwardly -- seemed stunned more than anything. The weeping and moaning and gnashing of teeth of the rest was over the top and they just identified themselves to be the same kind of highly judgemental SJWs that infest Internet forums.

reply

Didn't care for this episode. Glad Varner is off, but didn't like the way CBS used it for ratings. The audience knows if Zeke didn't want this to air, it wouldn't have. But what bugged me most was Jeff not taking a vote. What if a contestant wanted to keep Varner knowing he would never win the million dollars? Hope they won't be too scared to vote off Zeke.

reply

Good points. I was pretty bummed by Jeff P. too. His obvious disdain for Varner seemed out of place, and I'm sure he knew they could have edited that scene. No, Jeff, you wanted that scene, you wanted the controversy because it helps ratings. Be honest now! Tsk

reply

Exactly.
