I know why Lorelai enjoyed Dean as Rory's first boyfriend because he was respectful and genuinely nice. It's definitely interesting to watch because she wasn't fond of Jess or Logan at all. The thing that bothered me was Lorelai overstepping her boundaries in that relationship or thinking it's cute when Dean calls constantly. Lorelai probably would've hated a guy like Dean when she was a teenager.

Agreed that teenaged Lorelai would have found Dean to be creepy and lame. I always thought that Lauren and Jared had a lot of chemistry (much more than Jared and Alexis, actually) and it makes most of their scenes kind of uncomfortable.

I would've loved for the show to have had the guts to go there. After all, Lorelei did have 1 date with that much younger guy everyone teased her about. Dean's character as presented would probably dig an older woman.

I'm glad the show didn't go "there" because Dean wasn't 18--he was 16 and 17. That would be creepy and pediphilic, not to mention illegal if they had sex. I never saw romantic or sexual chemistry between Dean and Lorelai, she was like a mother figure to him.

How so? They don't share the same background, nor is Dean as irresponsilbe when he's 16.

She pretty much gets the same treatment from Digger, and she still goes out with him.

For all of Dean's respectfulness, he ended up being the one Rory lost her virginity to (and he was married, yikes).
