To be honest, I wasn´t that shocked, because the signs were there:
First she even said she didn´t want to stay home long and wants to return to work.
She planned the birth and even worked in the hospital room, when things didn´t go as planned. And wanted to make it clear to her boss and co-workers that just because she is pregnant she still can do everything as usual.
Even her "friends" at the baby shower said they could never imagine her as mother - or something similar, I am not sure what they said exactly.
For the character in general, I really hated her. She has no sense for privacy or comfort zones. She tried to act like Rory´s BBF from the start, hell she even wanted to invite herself to the grandparents house, so she could take a look at the painting - I mean who does that at the first meeting?
She is annoying and only wants things going her way, like with the baby shower - In some ways she is like Lorelai, but Lorelai was in a different place when she had Rory. She was a teenager and was left by Christopher.
Sherry was a selfish b* and I never believed it could work out between her and Chris for long. Sherry defined herself through her work, and that usually does not go away, just because you can´t use birth control. So, I was not really surprised that it worked out that way, and I think it is not that hard to believe.
Oh, yeah and she only stayed with Chris for the kid, she wanted to leave him (or both wanted the separation), but stayed only because she found out she was pregnant and at this point Chris was a willing victim, bc I wanted to make up for all the things he missed with Rory. They stayed together for the wrong reasons.
