I just saw that episode again where Emily is all excited and tells Lorelai and Rory that Rory is in the first 3% of her class. Lorelai tells her that she knows this already and Emily asks, "Who do you know at Chilton?" Lorelai says "Rory," and Emily just responds, "Oh," That scene cracks me up every time.

Yeah I guess Emily forgot that Rory herself would have sort of known that she ended that high with her own grades.
