DVD commentary...
Has anyone heard the commentary on the Replicant R1 disc? It's aboslutely hilarious! The packaging bills Van Damme as the only person providing the commentary but most of the time it's Michael Rooker talking. There's nothing wrong with that, but I was expecting more of Van Damme. Also, the commentary is one of those where the people talking on it aren't together when doing the track. Rooker probably provided an entire commentary track and so did Van Damme, but the final product glues them together so a lot of what was said was cut out by each individual.
Also, I knew Jean-Claude had a heavy accent, but I didn't know his English was that bad. In his movies he follows a script so he speaks proper English, though with an accent, however in the commentary there are long periods of silence where Van Damme is searching for the right word to use. Very funny.
Lastly, several times after his part in the commentary is over, Van Damme says things like "now let's return to go back to the Replicant and have a fun time, HEE-YA (sound effect of karate chop or kick)." I swear he must have used similar lines to that one at least three times through out the film. I was cracking up.
Aside from Rooker and Van Damme having to "share" track time I love the commentary. It provides some good information and Van Damme is absolutely hilarious, how can you not love the guy? I only wish more of his films came with commentary tracks.
Words like violence. Break the silence.
Come crashing in. Into my little world.
