Preston's wife - one thing I've never understood

Preston had a wife, and, when you decide to get married, it's usually based on love.

The same with their kids; to have sex, then it's usually also based on attraction.

So unless they just decided to get married, only for the sake of being married, and Preston masturbated in a cup (which would require being horny as well), to make/give his wife artificial insemination, then the grounds the movie is based on, is ruined there already.

All these voices in my head, and not a single one I understand.

The whole point of marriage in the movie was to showcase "STRUCTURE." Which is important for controlling the populace. Without assigned partners and 2 children per couple there would be more chaos and lack of organization.

A bright light can hollow the deepest of nothingness.

Usually. Not always. And throughout history, arranged marriages had nothing to do with love. Heck, even in modern times, there are countless loveless marriages.

No. It wouldn't. The body can still react to physical stimulation despite not being "in the mood."

Seize the moment, 'cause tomorrow you might be dead.

That is a big fat no. Marriage is institution, economical contract, love is quite a recent addition. Marriage brings structure into chaotic life.

When you decide to get married it's usually for love?

Are you for real?

reply

In a man's case, yes.

Can't speak for the women though 

I think you're projecting

Good for you

They can feel emotions. The voice over clearly states that it is just the highs and lows of emotion that the drug limits. Consider it being on strong xanax in addition to the society encouraging self control at the top of that.

reply

Many societies in the past married out of necessity, logic or arranged marriages, certainly not out of love.

And the ability to have sex and have children does not solely rly on emotion,. Attraction also doesn't have to be based on emotions as well but the film does not draw the line well on it. Like their distaste for artistic creations like the mere frame of a mirror even?

Hehe, thanks. You're funny!

Especially in historical context, your statement is REALLY funny!

reply

People have already pointed out that marriage can be for a number of reasons not based on love. As for the other point, I assumed everyone is artificially inseminated in this world.
