Mandolin Type

I am looking for some information regarding the type of mandolin Nicholas Cage played in the movie. My brother is interested in playing and I would like to know where to purchase one. The mondolin in the movie looks a lot smaller than the mandolins / bluegrass mandolins on TV and in music shops. Anybody out there know the type of mandolin used in the movie?

I play the mandolin myself, and I'd strongly suggest buying a bluegrass mandolin rather than a bowlback (the one in the film...I assume; I've never seen it). You're going to have a hell of time getting hold of a bowlback, let alone one that sounds decent. Bluegrass mandolins sound very, very similar and are generally easier to play. He should start with a bluegrass mandolin, and if he still wants a bowlback so he can play neapolitan, classical, or baroque music, I'd talk to the people on the mandolin cafe message boards.
